I didn't really think soap could go bad, once the fats react with the lye they are chemically transformed and no longer a fat so couldn't go off/rancid. I've had pucks of tallow soaps laying around for years with no seeming ill effects on the lather. The pucks do dry out if unused for an extended period but I just soak them overnight in some cold water and they come right back.

soak them overnight? I soaked them, but only for about 20 minutes. Maybe I'll try longer.

Because I'm loading the brush so much (I don't stop until the brush is really loaded - about 2 minutes or more for the initial load, and maybe another 20 seconds in between passes), I don't think loading the brush is the issue. I also have plenty of experience with soap samples, because I typically never buy a soap unless I've tried a sample first, and these are the first soaps to ever give me trouble in 5 years. Mitchell's Wool Fat was easy, as were DR Harris, Czech & Speake, Meissner Tremona, etc.

@ joelkerr, I have another suggestion, you can use the soaps as hand or bath soap.
If you still have soaps that you want to get rid off, you can send them to Gasman for monthly giveaways.

That is a bit odd for both of those good soaps to not lather properly. However, it can happen.
If they continue to give you trouble, then just use them as handsoap.
    Good luck.
