    Default Catching Up

    Gentlemen,
It has been a while since I have posted anything. Family circumstances. Although I have not tried that many new soaps and creams, new to me, anyway, those that I have tried deserve noting.

A cream that I find surprisingly good is Caswell-Massey No. 6. The aftershave and cologne, supposed designed for President George Washington, have been a favorite of mine for some years. Although the fragrance from the cream does not correspond with that of the aftershave and is a wee bit too robust for me, the cream performs exceptionally well overall. Rich lather, good cushion and glide make the cream a First Tier candidate.

Mondial, an Italian soap that I have used in the past, turns out to be exceptionally good. I think I have it in the Second Tier of quality soaps. I think it deserves to be in the First Tier. It lathers quite well. Cushion and glide are good. I have the sandalwood and the Neroli and Bergamot and like both. Perhaps they changed their formula, I don't know. I remember trying it some years ago and being somewhat disappointed. Not so this time. I am quite impressed.

Dr. Selby is another soap that failed to impress me some years ago. This time around I am really impressed with its overall performance. The fragrance, kind of woodsy, is subtle and pleasing. The lather is big. Cushion and glide are right up there. It comes in an attractive, Art Deco, design that make it worthy of any shave den. More good stuff.

Razor Emporium has a shave soap it calls 1955. This is a barbershop style tallow soap in the old style, thus the name 1955. It has subtle and pleasing fragrance. A rich lather is easy to make with this soap. Cushion and glide do not disappoint. It is another soap worth trying.

I don't know how long the sandalwood and bergamot shave cream from St. James of London has been around, but this is the first time I have tried. I have acquainted with some of the other creams from this company, but this one is new on me. The scent is very pleasing, and the performance is superb. This one is worth in your shave den, for sure. First Tier, for sure.

Supply, the maker of the injector razor, has a cream that's worth the try. So for I have tried the citrus and basil fragrance and found it pleasing. Spring isn't busting all over with this cream, but it is still good overall and worth the try.

I had been without Mitchell's Wool Fat for some years and tried it again. Well, Mitchell's Wool Fat is ... Mitchell's Wool Fat. It is a good soap. Just make sure you load your brush heavily. I especially like the porcelain container it comes in. Very classy.

There are many more new soaps and creams out there, but these days I take it easy with expenses for shave products.

It's good to see you back again Obie, we miss you.

There are always new soaps and creams coming out. I've reached a point where I have about 4 brands and that's it for me. MDC, Castle Forbes, Meisner and Sebum Gold.

I guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Thanks, Spendur. Indeed, Martin de Candre and Castle Forbes rule in my humble shave den. These are good stuff. I often promise myself to trim my soap and cream lineup to Martin de Candre, Castle Forbes, Cyril Salter sandalwood, St. James of London, Baume.Be, Wickham 1912 Russian Leather . . . Well, my diet does not seem to work.
