Thanked: 603It's the difference between pungent (an acceptable, but kinda "neutered" word) and animalic (Charles took offense when I used the word as part of a lengthy and very positive description of his Jasmine EO shaving soap).
Believe me, it's appealing at a visceral, direct-circuit-from-nose-to-brain level. I used the QED Jasmine shaving soap today, and afterward bemoaned the fact that I don't have an EDT/EDP that matches/complements the Jasmine scent. In the end I "settled" for Yatagan, by Caron, but...
Jasmine that is "dressed-up and made presentable" is like watching a movie on TV that has been "edited for content, time, and to fit your TV set".
Here is the link to Chandler Burr on Raw Materials. I encourage people to read it -- it's a Good Thing for us to develop an appreciation-for and an understanding-of the language with which industry professionals describe and discuss scents. YMMV.Last edited by JBHoren; 01-23-2008 at 03:07 AM.
You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

Perhaps it would go well with a musky fragrance, to match the animalic qualities? I'm still in for the jasmine, sounds great to me.

Thanked: 335What a fickle bunch we are.
Before the Crash it was rose, rose, rose. Save for that one soul, shouting in the wilderness something about...swamps...er...mires...hmm - ah, yes, bogs it was, and the manly smell of bogwater.
Makes one wonder what the flavor of the day will be tomorrow.

Thanked: 603Ahhh, well, speaking from the fragrance side of things, man-made scents seem to have a three-stage architecture (in order-of-appearance): top notes, middle notes, and base notes. In view of the still-recent Crash, I think we ought to add a fourth stage: database notes. Since there was a backup (of sorts), and SRP is back online, one could say that the database "rose" from the (figurative) ashes. If I weren't so committed to Jasmine, I'd say that the logical scent for the group-buy ought to be Rose!

Thanked: 335Bjrn,
"Selective memory" is so close to the truth it hurts. There are some days when my memory works like the proverbial steel trap, other days I'd swear it's welded shut. Considering that, I selected Rose for the forum emerging from the ashes. I suppose I should have selected Phoenix, but I'm not sure Charles has that EO ready for soaps just yet.
