Classic Shaving Shaving Mug Soap
For anybody who has used the CS soaps, how long did they last?
I had a citrus spice that I liked a lot, but it only lasted for about 20 to 30 shaves. They weren't overly thick either, but I'm blaming method and water quality for that.
How long do other soaps last?
Are there any good handmade ones on eBay?

I've never used CS but as for Williams, I buy a new puck every May.

I don't know how long a puck will last because I switched away from mine, although it did seem to be going pretty fast when I was using it. I had a puck of the lavendar, but once I got my hands on some TGQ soap there was no going back. CS soap had weak lather for me as well. I took it out of my mug and put it in a bag for emergency use, but I hope it won't come to that.

Thanked: 32Classic soap was also a dissapointment for me. I gave up on the sandalwood and used it in the shower. The almond I lather with some KMF unscented cream to make it useable because I love the scent of it.
Honeybee Spa soaps are very good and super cheap if you get a sampler:

I've also heard good things about this vendor but haven't tried them yet. Same deal with the sampler:

Well I have 3 pucks in rotation right now (Williams, Van der Hagen(sp?), and Coleen's) and I don't expect them to run out for another 3 months...at the rate they're going now.
But, of course, that doesn't mean that I won't be buying other soaps in the meantime!
I've not tried CS's soaps yet.

I can't say enough about Colleen's Cavendish Black. I love the lather and the scent. I figure I'll be using it as long as she sells shaving soap! I'm spoiled. TGQ'a website is interesting and easy to navigate. And Colleen is a Super Lady.
I have a lot of other shaving soaps in packages on the shelf. They are gathering dust. Since I discovered Cavendish Black, I've not used any other. All the soap that's just lyng there, is 'designer' soap. I quit Williams and Colgate years ago.
Colleen's soap lasts well, too!
TGQ...TWO thumbs up!

Thanked: 13245Classic Shave Soap
I must be doing something wrong here, I get great results from the Classic shave pucks, I have maybe 6 scents from them now, and a Lime on the way for springtime....
I should state that I almost always use an Uberlather when shaving, so my results might vary from others....
Having almost 30 different soaps, from MWF and TOBS on the high end to Williams on the low, with some soaps from Mama Bear, Sue Bee, C&E and even Conk's in there also, I would rate the Classic a solid 6 out of 10 in every category, except for scent they get a 7.... I have not tried the soaps from TGQ or QED, YET!!! but they are at the top of my list right now....
Just for context my favorite soap is the MWF which I would rate a 9 overall not a 10 only because of the scent, it always amazes me when someone says the can't get a great lather from that one.....
Would I give a huge resounding recommendation for the Classic pucks??? NO.... but the are a good solid performer and they seem to last about the same as any other glycerin puck..... of course this is JMHO

Gentlemen, NOBODY to MY knowledge, has mentioned hard water as a factor in not getting good lather from a soap. Hard water won't lather well and soft water definitely WILL.
Sadly, I don't have a water softener, so I am forced to use the city water, if I want to shave. The city water here is relatively hard and won't lather well with certain soaps. Colleen's does fine here. Others don't cut it.
Just something to consider.

Thanked: 13245I only wish my well water was as soft as city water
Having to use such hard water has taught me one thing though, HEAT HELPS.....
You also cannot shortcut the lather making process, great lather takes a little extra time and effort...
When I shave at the Gym in town I can do the lather on the face routine with success using a Mama Bear shave stick... at home this would be a disaster...(nothing against Mama Bear's soap here, no soap lathers well at home this way) this might be why I have been using the uberlathers at home....

Thanked: 3356gun,
For the benefit of the new and especially the dense (yours truly) will you explain an "uberlather"?
thank you,
