    Default A question about EO's

I bought a bottle west Indian sandalwood EO with the idea of adding it to the body shops shaving cream which doesn't smell of anything really.
Has anyone tried this before if so a starting point would be great.
I have no idea how much to add I was thinking along the lines of scooping out a small amount add a few drops mix it up add some more if necessary.
    any suggestions welcome.

I think you'll have a hard time blending it into the whole batch. Probably easiest to put a couple of drops in your lathering bowl. Let us know how it works!

I heard it's been done before. But I don't know what they did exactly.

Think you would need to heat the whole batch and then cool it so it sets again. Dodgey though.

+1 on simply adding a drop to the lather bowl.

I have used some EO's in an unscented cream I have. I added a couple of drops to the cream after I put it in my shave bowl. Mixed it up with the brush from there. Worked pretty good. Don't go overboard on the EO. Start with few drops and adjust from there. Too much EO can irritate my skin.

Essential oils are very potent and as such, 2-3 drops are plenty. I use EOs in my clay mask and after shave conditioners. If you use too much, it can change the chemical balance of your cream. Also, you have to make sure your face can handle it. I've use some EOs that burned my face like you wouldn't believe.

you should be able to scent the entire batch.. but I would make sure that you like it first. It is easier to scent a whole container than a tiny bit as you will always over pour for a tiny bit.. best to just dribble a few drops on your whole container and see it how it goes. just pour it into the container and use a fork and stir it up really, really good... that should do it. It might be easier to put in a larger container to mix up then use a spatula to put it back in the origional container as it may overflow when you stir it real good.

I have a real problem with sandalwood.. I loved it as a girl, but I can no longer smell it.... it breaks my heart.

But you should easily be able to scent any shaving cream this way.. there is no heating needed... that of know of anyway..

Ah, I thought you were using cake soap, hence why I said you may need to heat.

    Cream's a winner

Btw, where did you buy your EO?

I've found good EO's for soap making in a coupla places, the easiest is bath and body works, they have an aromatherapy section. also there is another store nearby, can't remember what it's called, i call it the hippy store, but they sell incense and beaded curtains and crap like that, they usually have at least a dozen kinds of eo, plus they let you open the bottle and smell it first.

also, if you have a whole foods near you, they usually carry eo in their tea/vitamin/incense section.
