I used my Mama Bears Pearberry for the first time yesterday, it was divine!!! It lives up to it's name and reputaion.
Happy shaving!:D
I make my own shave soap, and it works rather well IMHO, but that hasn't stopped me from keeping a good selection of Mama-Bear's soaps on hand.
It's nice to have variety, and you won't be dissapointed with anything you get from mamabear.
Besides which, the lady has class. When I started selling my soap, she was very helpful with suggestions about packaging, labeling, she even gave me several soap molds. Next time you're shopping for soap, throw her a line, and tell her what you like, she knows her scents inside and out, and will steer you to your next favorite.
For me Mama bear gets :tu:tu Two thumbs up.
I have both of those scents right now and they are divine!!!!
I just purchased the lime and Tuscan Memories both of which are fantastic! Does anyone have a suggestion on how to build up a good lather with these soaps? I get pretty good lather in the soap dish but suspect I am missing out on getting a richer lather by using a scuttle or bowl.
Any suggestions?
The amount of water depends on your brush, I use a cheap silvertip brush, and water that is close to boiling. soak the brush, as well as your mug scuttle, whatever. when you are ready to lather, pour the water out of your mug, and let all of the water run off of your brush. if there's a little left, that's okay, I usually give the brush a little flick into the mug.
swirl the brush in the soap until it is well loaded, and starts to form a lather, then move to your mug.
do not lift your brush, keep it close to the bottom of the mug, swirling and pumping the lather until it is reasonably well developed, and then move to your face.
It should be good and hot, and you can continue to build lather on your face as needed.
Pretty simple, but gives good results. and the lather should still be warm for a second pass.
Just remember you can always add water, it's harder to add soap.
Sue's soaps are imho some of the best out there. I recently got a tub of pure Neroli EO soap she made for us over on B&B and it is truly truly magnificent. Another must have for me is the citrus basil. Completely divine!
Rosemary mint. I'm pretty much a cream guy now, but the one soap I'll always have on hand is Mama Bear's rosemary mint. That stuff is too wonderful not to use.
MB's soaps are great. I also really like her shampoo!

Just got my first M B Lime soap. I am blown away. Excellent in every aspect. :y
Can't believe the lather from a natural soap with no detergents added. :tu:tu:tu
Hehe, I like the variety of products at the eBay store:
"Home made and hand crafted glycerin soaps and CP soaps and Gorgeous Hand blown Christmas ornaments with 21ct gold accents"
Looks like good prices and you guys are talking it up a lot... I'll probably have to check it out.
I just placed several soap orders and one of them went to Mama Bear!
I am waiting on:
dragon's blood
dragon's tears
frankincense and myrhh
and
sap moss
I can't wait!
Dragon's Blood is top shelf!!
I can't say enough good things about Mama Bear's soaps. I have the rosemary mint, rosewood, hydrogen and the AS. They are all fantastic. She is also a very nice lady and has outstanding customer service.:tu:tu
Ditto on the Dragon's Blood.
Also really like the pear scented soap. Like biting into a crisp cool pear!
I really didnt like Mama bears soaps too much, so I am selling 5 of them, that I have melted and put into wooden bowls.

I you like Mama Bear, then buy these from me and save some money.:tu
That is very true. I like the elements of Bamboo and Green Irish tweed. I didn't like the rosemary mint as much reminded me of Vicks... However it does lather extremely well. Also she sells wooden bowls for the soap for $ 7.99. I bought the rosemary mint in one for a total of $14.98 plus shipping. A really great deal. However "The Pastor's deal will save you a few bucks.. :)
i like the lime ice it leaves your face feeling great
that you are. i get better results using a seperate vessel for lathering no matter the soap, and mama bear's is no exception. i soak my silvertip, shake it dry, thrash about in the mama bear's container until the bristles are loaded, then put a bit of water in the lathering vessel (in my case, a redneck scuttle) and go to town! lathers quite well this way.
I am a huge fan of dragon's blood, it's great. i also have the ylang ylang, which i honestly found a bit overwhelming, scent wise, (although it's good if you like strong floral smells) and i also have and use the smokin' soap, which i like the smell of. it smells like cigarette smoke, though, not really so much pipe tobacco and leather as advertised. to me, it smells like someone smoking a cowboy killer, but that is a smell i like, so i enjoy the soap.
Dragons Blood especially is an irritating FO. I try hard not to sell this one, but the folks who love it er.... they would really hurt me if I took off the market. If you are in doubt.. do NOT buy this one...
Bea Brummel is another one.. as is Lavender essential oil.... known irritants, good for the nonsensitive types only.
Meanwhile, if you are having any issues getting lather.. this video is from a customer in Norway. God Bless Him... I plan to adopt him and leave him all my soap when I pass.....
YouTube - Mama Bear Demonstrasjon
It is in Norwegian, but I think that he makes it very clear what he is doing... and what he is getting from my soap..
God Bless You All! I know I haven't been around, but life is catching back again with me and I can't WAIT to get back to normal... soon... soon.. clicks her red heels together.....
I want to add one thing about dragon's blood.. I said it reminded me of a head shop from the sixties.. It did and I liked that so much I used it even though it irritated my skin.
While I don't always enjoy every scent mama bear might put out, that is personnal taste and the quality of all her soaps are of the highest quality. That is why there are so many scents different strokes for different folks. I have two favorites that I use more than any other soap or cream Elements of Bamboo and Green Irish tweed. Wow really great stuff...
Thanks Rich... but if a soap irritates you.. don't use it! Seriously!
I can send you another one hon....
Bear Hugs! Sue
Great video, but I get the porno vibe from it:roflmao
I got my first mama bear's soaps today, now if only my beard could grow faster!
I bought some a little while back and they've quickly become my favorite. So far I have:
Dragon's Tears
Patchouli
Bay Rum
Frankincense and Myrhh
The frankincense and Myrhh is my favorite so far .. I ordered some more from her just recently as I liked them so much. Figured I should get some of the Dragon's Blood before it's gone just to try it, the Bay Rum and F&M I got are both FO and I didn't have any problems so hopefully won't with the Dragon's Blood.
Mama Bear,
Just ordered two new soaps. They are for my son (aged 14) He just started high school and he needs to be clean shaven (not that he has much facial hair...:roflmao. ) I thought I would start him out right with two of your soaps so he will leave mine alone..:tu thanks for the great products.
So I am a poor grad student, and when I joined, Tony (Richardhead) went above and beyond the call of duty and sent me a complete kit for free when I asked to buy a razor that hadn't sold on the 'Bay. This kit included a container of Ylang Ylang.
it was my first soap, and I loved it. I have since learned (by trying some other soaps) just how easy Mama Bear's soaps lather. They are just very forgiving when it comes to amount/type of water.
I scraped together some extra cash given to me as a gift and I ordered some new soaps. I ordered Green Irish Tweed, Aged Spice, Beau Brummel, Sandalwood Vanilla, and Sapmoss. I ordered on Sunday, and immediately realized I had used an old shipping address on paypal. I e-mailed Sue, and a few hours later got a reply that she would happily change the address. Ordering Sunday evening the soap was in my mailbox on Wednesday afternoon! I had ordered small sample packs from a few other places and these soaps were in my hand a full day before any of the other orders even left the stores!
I opened up the box, and to my surprise there was a package of Mandarin Ice soap and a sample Mandarin Ice aftershave. I don't dare to even call the soap a "sample" as it was at least 3/4 of the way full! I was bowled over! I have many months of enjoyable shaving ahead of me. Of course I had to open everything up for a smell, and it all smelled wonderful. Aged Spice is a wonderful, actually cleaner smelling, version of Old Spice. Sandalwood Vanilla is absolutely heavenly. Green Irish Tweed is right up my alley scent-wise. After smelling Mandarin Ice, I will certainly be trying the other citrus ice products! Beau and Sapmoss have a much more concentrated scent, but smell wonderful, and I think they will be just perfect as a longer lasting shave scent.
I had to try the Aged Spice first (the wife loves Old Spice), and it lathered and felt just as wonderful as the Ylang Ylang that I started out with. I want to shave twice a day just to get to try them all sooner!
Just a little hint, I find that Mama Bear's soaps with just a tiny spot of Speick make a wonderful and flawless super lather!
Thanks Sue for incredibly fast, friendly service, for going above and beyond with a great extra gift, and most of all for making such wonderful soaps!
If you havn't yet, take the plunge and buy a few containers of Mama Bear's product!
I've tried a few, but Mandarin Ice is the one I keep going back to. I'm going to try the Lime Ice this time:D.
I won't use anything but Mama Bears soap now. Last time I tried someone else's I actually cut myself because I was so used to Mama Bear's better lather.
Last night it was the Mandarin Ice. What a marvelous shave! The smell was a little on the sweet side (but I normally don't do sweet scents), but delicious. This soap has to have THE PERFECT quantity of menthol! The sensation was not distracting, and indeed almost non present during the shave. Once I rinsed my face though, I was covered in a wonderful, very gentle cooling sensation. It was 11:00PM, I had been up since 5 AM, but I was all ready to go for another day. I definitely have to try this in the morning, it can really wake you up and make you feel ready to go. I followed it up with the Mandarin Ice summer aftershave. This was a much more intense menthol sensation. It really would have felt nice before going out on a hot day. The aftershave itself has the milky color of a balm, but texture-wise is about halfway between a splash and a balm. it definitely didn't feel like lotion and was not heavy on my face.
Once again, more excellent work Sue!
I just ran out of my Dr. Harris soap and bought two Mama Bear's for the first time. I was not disappointed. Mama Bear's was much better than the more expensive Dr. Harris. Thanks so much for such a great product.
I ordered Mama Bear's Joe's Trade Wind and Tuscan Memories 2 days ago for a try. I have exclusively used CS glycerine soaps and wanted to try some different fragences as well as soap types. I look forward to their arrival...:D
You and your soaps are the best. Thanks for that but you didn't need to, I loved the scent. It was funny yesterday he needed to take the 6 whiskers off his upper lip and I see him sniffing all my soaps and he selected Green Irish Tweed. It is so funny to see him lather up with my fathers brush (I passed it on to him) Still haven't got him to use a str8 by himself yet. I am beginning to feel old...:roflmao:roflmao
Two nights ago my wife and I both shaved with the Sandalwood Vanilla. Of all the scents I've tried so far, this is definitely my favorite. The lather and shave were, of course, flawless (ok, maybe my own shaving wasn't flawless). It was a pleasure to go around with that great scent caught in my beard. Best of all, I kept sneaking into our bedroom and bathroom because both had a heavenly aroma of sandalwood and vanilla.
Last night I shaved with the Beau Brummel. Just smelling the pucks, this was probably my least favorite scent. I do not really go for very sweet smells, and the Beau smelled rather like honey to me. Shaving with it the lather was great, the scent not distracting, and I was left with the softest pre-aftershave cheeks that I've had since I started with the straights. The smell as it lingered on my cheeks and neck was light enough that the sweetness did not bother me and all the shea butter was definitely well worth it.
Tonight Green Irish Tweed!
