What's with Van Der Hagen Deluxe?
I got some vdh shaving soap from WalMart and I've found that while it gives a comfortable shave, it smells exactly like the hand soap you get from dispensers in public toilets.
When I shave with it, the olfactory cues don't remind me of a London gentleman's club or a tropical island, my memories are directed to gas station restrooms.
How much would it cost to scent the soap with something more appealing?

You could simply melt it in micowave and add some of your favorite after shave/colone or some essential oil scents of your liking! Mix it and pour into your mug or container for a form-fit.
Another way is to grate it and press into mug/container and add your scent.
Hope this helps.

I've had good results spraying Malizia vetyver into unscented soap that I melted in the nuke. However IMO, VHD soaps aren't worth the trouble. Just order something from Colleen and you'll be set

I melt the VDH Deluxe into my Old Spice mug.
I add a squirt of KMF/Proraso/Nivea shaving cream.
I make a great lather.
Have a great shave
Followed by cold water rinse
Dickingson's Witch Hazel splash
One of my aftershaves

I knew that smell was familar , I just could'nt place it . I used VDH for over a year , it gives a decent lather , and does'nt smell bad , it just does'nt smell good . A friend here on the forum sent me some samples of Colleen's TGQ soaps , and I have'nt used VDH since ! Do yourself a favor , and order some samples from TGQ . The lather is better , and all the ones I've tried smell great .
Greetings , from Dundalk , Maryland . The place where normal people , fear to go .

I like the VDH luxury soap alot better, but it isn't as cheap or as readily available as the deluxe.
