Thanked: 52TOBS Lavender Cream
I am a NOOB and just ordered some Taylor of Old Bond Street Lavender Shave cream. Any comments on my choice?
What about the TOBS hard soaps. How are they?
Any input is welcomed...
Thanks
Eric

You won't go wrong with TOBS. I haven't tried their soap, but their cream is a good, solid choice. At a certain point, it's a matter personal preference.

Worst thing that can happen is that you won't like the smell.

Thanked: 953I have owned TOBS Lavendar and Sandlewood shaving soaps and threw away both. They are "ok", but there are so many GREAT shaving soaps out there for marginally more (or in some cases, less) money, that I think it's a waste of money and more importantly a waste of great shaving days to get the TOBS soaps. The TOBS creams are competitive with the best stuff, but the soaps just are not.
Rather than TOBS, get DRH, Tabac, Valobra, MWF, GFT, IK, AOS or several others which are MUCH better. A triple milled soap will last you probably six months or so, so why pay $5 less for a totally mediocre TOBS soap when you can have an awesome DRH (or TABAC, MWF, etc.). Over six months, what's $5?

The only TOBS cream I owned was Shaving Shop. I used it every day until I went through the entire tub. It wasn't a bad cream but I wasn't fond of the smell and wouldn't buy it again.
Can anyone comment on whether any of the other TOBS creams in other scents dry out easily during mid shave? Like no other cream I've used, TOBS cream would dry out until it was start "snowing" while I was shaving. I think there was some song in the 70s called "It's raining men" or something. I used to sing "It's snowing TOBS" out loud on numerous shaving occasions. T

"it's Raining Men" was the one hit of the Weather Girls, I think in the early eighties (maybe late seventies).
My TOBS Almond and Rose (all gone now) don't dry up if I use enough water and don't dilly dally, but if I stop to watch a highlight on sportscenter, I need to reapply to get it wet again. So I fear you are on to something there.

Thanks for the heads up, I was wondering about the soaps.
As for the other scents, I'm waiting a sampler pack of every scents TOBS make (creams), I'll get back to you about it.
(or if you want to try them yourself, contact shavingessentials, the sampler is not on the website)

I love my TOBS Lavender soap. I reacted a little to the Sandalwood (slight burn) but the Lavender's a dream for me.

I like the TOBS Lavender cream for lather - a little goes a very long way. But something in it irritates my skin at times, and at other times no. The scent is strong also, but that does not bother me. If I try TOBS cream again (which I probably will), I would like something milder.
I have not tried their soaps, but TABAC is amazingly good for a hard soap.
