Thanked: 7Mama Bear and Speech class
I have a speech in school to convince people to do something . I am trying to convince people to shave with a straight razor over a disposable. I am planning on comparing ingredients of shaving cream. I am looking at a can of Gillette, and some of the ingredients are isobutane, propane, butane, hydorxethylcellulose, triethanolamine, triethanomine, and quaterniu-15. Does anyone know the main ingredients of Mama Bear's soaps? I don't need any trade secrets, I just want a comparison of the two. It also seems that the two have different purposes. The gillette seems to be made more to prevent your razor from clogging, while the Mother Bears seems more effective at lubricating your beard, and skin, making shaving more effective. Am I wrong? I was also planning on comparing waste produced, overall cost, and effectiveness. If you have another reason to support straight razor shaving, I would love to hear it. Thanks.

Thanked: 0An easy way would be to do a search online for how to make shave soap. This will give you a list of ingredients that the independent soap maker - like Colleen uses to produce soap. Plenty of essential oils, lye, and then various other scent and color ingredients. Or you could contact Mama Bear soaps for a list of ingredients - they probably wont give you everything since its trade secrets, but you could potentially get a few ingredients to show that its naturally made instead of a bunch of synthetic compouds.

Thanked: 131I vaguely recall Colleen did a breakdown somewhere of what all the long fancy named stuff that goes into a can of Gillette goop is. I cant remember where it is though.

I'm sure if you emailed them, one of the soapmakers would let you know. They might even have some info on the impact of the different ingredients. Good luck!

Sounds like you're trying to convince people to use traditional soaps. This isn't a bad thing, but it's not a straight razor.
Reasons to shave with a straight:
1. They don't fill up the landfill, but bloody hell those cartridges sure do. All the straight's ever produced, rusting away still couldn't equal the mountains of plastic cartridges.
2. They're cheaper in the long run no matter how many you buy because they have resale value after use. A disposable cartridge doesn't. Most men will spend between $300 and $400 each year on cartridges alone. Some will spend less, but many will spend more. That's a nice custom razor right there.
3. The shave is clearly superior. Just ask any woman who gets close enough.
(sub-advantage is that it might get you laid more. )
4. It is a far more enjoyable way to shave. A great shave for a gentleman is the equivalent of a spa session for a lady. men appreciate the right kind of pampering too.
