For soaps, I had good results with Tryphon's shaving soaps (no experience yet with his creams). For creams, I'd recommend Salter's and Vulfix's (for the reasons that TBS cited in his post).

I live in a very hard water area & I've been getting good results with Kent bowl hard soap( This has got better the more I use it .I guess it needs breaking in) Today I used the Bodyshop shavingMaca root shaving Cream which I bought a month or so back. This has been giving great results If I use it as it is staight after washing my face with lots of hot water & soap. I've found this gives better results if I DONT use any preshave product. Very good lubrication & razor glde ,it seems to soften the beard & the skin.I follow up with my usual post shave miosturiser.
I just miosten my brush in hot water & pick up the lather straight from the tub & mx the lather on my face ,I'm not sparing with the amount I use as its the result i'm after. Hope this helps .Paul
