Default Proraso Lather vs. Mama Bear?

    Hi everyone,

I currently have both Proraso shaving cream and Mama Bear soap. Is it me, or does Proraso make a better/thicker lather? I can't seem to get the same thickness or richness with the Mama Bear soap.

Should I be doing something special like letting water soak over the soap for a while or something? Thanks.

    -Jon

Firstly you are trying to compare a Cream to a Soap, they are not the same....

The basic difference is the type of lather that is produced, I have to say "in general" here because there are exceptions to every rule in shavedom

A cream produces a rich thick creamy lather that is designed to cushion the face...

A soap produces a slicker not quite as creamy a lather that is designed to allow the razor to glide over the skin...

To get either type to it's optimum only requires a little brush practice from you, and the right amount of hot water...

Soaking the soap with a coating of hot water before loading the brush does help, because it softens the soap and allows more soap onto the brush....

Ahhh ok, that makes sense gssixgun. Thanks for the clarification on the the "in general" distinction between soaps and creams. I always thought it was a personal preference thing. Cool!

Yeah I haven't been getting that nice of a lather out of it yet, but I've only tried mixing it up twice, so still experimenting with loading the brush and what not.
