Thread: Chad Stewart's test Creams

Well, I just got my 2 test samples from Chad. They are Absinth ( That's what I can make out) & Almond. Sunday I will be Trying the Absinth UberLather. It will be mixed with Van Der Hagen Deluxe Shaving Soap.

Anyone else get their test samples?

I wonder, if you are testing a new cream, why don't you just use the cream? I think mixing it with VDH will tell you nothing about the cream itself, except whether it mixes well with a soap.

As far as I can tell, the only good "uberlather" does is help poorly performing creams/soaps perform better. Using it with products which already perform well is kind of a waste, isn't it? And using it with something you've not even tried yet? What's the point? What am I missing about this whole uberlather/superlather phenomenon?

I'm still eagerly awaiting mine! I've saved one shave from the first batch so i can do a more accurate comparison. Mine have a way to travel, but maybe they'll be with the postman this morning!

Hey, he did have them! Thanks Chad! I just had a shower, but no shave, just in case they arrived. I will be conducting my first test of CSSC SB2 (Chad Stewart Shave Cream Sample Batch 2) later!

I did lather up some of just the scream and it was very nice and thick. I want to try it by itself and mixed to get a real test from it. Since I only had a cake of VDH soap and I know how it works for me, That is why I'm doing the Uber Lather first. Then I'll do just the cream by itself, then with Glycerin. I think I'll even try to mix the creams as well.

JimR, If it is a waste of time to do it the way I'm doing it. Then that's OK with me... Was it a waste of time to re-vamp the fire arm that worked good when the match light was around? What about the telephone, why up-grade it when it worked? Was that a waste of time? To truly test something You have to have a starting point. My starting point is with a cake of soap. Now I know My way might not be the best way. But it is a guide that I am going to follow. I might not like it mixed or if I tried it alone I might not mix it and find out if it is best or worse Mixed.

Test 1) UberLather= VDH cake soap & Chad Stewart's Shave Cream & Glycerin.
The Lather came out very nice and smooth, The scent was out of this world. Not over powering, but You could smell it. The shave with it was very nice and silky smooth. This is my First Uber Lather and I really liked it. Since I shave very other day next test with the CSSC Absinthe will be Tuesday. That lather will be a Super Lather, Just VDH & CSSC with no Glycerin, then Thursday it will just be the CSSC. Then I'll move over to the CSSC Almond. After the 3 tests with that, Then I'll test both CSSC's together.


*Note: Again Test 2 on Tuesday & 3 on Thursday. I will update .

Test 2) Super Lather = VDH cake soap & Chad Stewart's shaving cream. This was another great shave. I didn't use Glycerin this time to see how the lather would be. I could tell it wasn't as rich as the UberLather, but still worked great. The Lather was full and smooth, whipped up nicely to a full creamy body just like the Uber. I don't know if it was me, but I could smell the Absinthe better Today. Been about 1/2 Hr and I can still smell it. It's not over powering at all. My skin felt very smooth and soft after the shave. The Wapi slide nicely thru the lather making for a Nice NO nick, NO Blood shave. Just out of these 2 tests I would say, GIVE CHAD STEWART A. CALL AND ASK FOR SOME OF HIS CREAMS.

Thursday I'll be testing CSSC by itself. That shave I'll be back to using the Wade & Butcher. Then come Saturday I'll start testing the Almond scent CSSC in the same 3 tests. Just a re-cap of the test. Uber Lather, Super Lather and just CSSC Lather. All shaves will be done WTG pass, XTG pass ( one way ), ATG pass then XTG pass ( the other way ) with water rinses & towel wraps. I'm finding this face perp is working great for me. I also like the Witch Hazel & Baby Oil splashes after wards.


*Note" I highly recommend this Cream. This is also the first cream I have tried, So please that this test for what it is...a TEST. Thanx...

P.S. Chad if You read this... Great job on the Cream ( Absinthe so far, not saying the Almond won't be as good )

Got mine yesterday and tried the orange/clove today.
Method: wet my face, place a knurdle (almond size) of the cream in the cup and whip it up using @2tbs water and wet, shaken brush (adding a little more water to get it right for me). Place lather on my face- brush teeth (2min), then re-lather and shave wtg, relather and shave atg,

The cream whipped up to a thick meringue texture easily. The foam remained intact throughout the 2 minutes of tooth brushing. After relathering, the shave (DOVO-tortoise) feel was very smooth with a very high slick factor. Just placing more water on my face before relathering revealed how much slickness remained. It seemed that keeping it wet increases the slickness. The relathering and ATG pass left my face bbs with an astonishingly smooth finish. Rinsing my face off after left a very smooth feel. The moisturizing effect was excellant. No irritation with a bbs shave.

I have about 20+ different soaps and creams I've bought, used, kept & thrown out in the year I've been a member of SRP. Some of these include: musgo, la toja, aos, crabtree, tobs, palmolive euro, honeybee spa, ogallala, arko commando, mitchells, kiss my face, wars, lido, vdh, etc. This rates easily in the top teir of creams.

I'll use the absinthe tomorrow.

price= ? this was a sample- I don't really know if Chad is going to market this product or share the recipe- I'd buy it. It is very concentrated and very little is needed to be used.

scent= I loved the oranga/clove. It was pleasant and did not linger after the shave

I like the density of the cream. I placed the knurdle in @ 2 tbs hot water in the bowl. It did soften and it whipped up leaving no leftovers.

TEST 3) This test was CSSC only. The lather was very nice and full. CSSC lathered up better then the VDH cake soap. It's body and smoothness was also better then just the cake of soap. I couldn't find anything wrong with this cream from being tested with soap & w/ Glycerin added or even by itself. Even alone the scent wasn't over powering just a nice soft smell to let you know it was there.

I had a almond size amount sitting in hot water in my bowl and it became very soft and made for a nice lather in no time. It was faster then cake soap lather when being made. I hope Chad makes bigger tubes of this cream because I will get some. The next set of tests on CSSC will be with the Almond scent cream, Those tests start Saturday, with the Wapi razor. The test will be Uber lather, Super lather & Cream alone lather. The very last tests after the 3 with the Almond will be a mix of both creams. Not sure if I am going to do a Uber/Super/cream only lathers, but I'm thinking of do them. This might even lead to a Absinthe/Almond cream, Who knows....

*Note: Sorry for my tests taking so long to do, I just didn't want to rush them and get a shave that is the same all the time. This is why I opted to shave every other day so the facial hair was the same length or close to it.

I've used the Orange Clove and Absinth recently. Both are very thick creams that have a great aroma. They lather up very quickly to a dense shave cream and provided for a smooth shave with great glide. I loke Chad's creams very much and would recommend them to anyone looking for a great shave cream.

To note, this cream was a lot denser than other I have used. It is like a butter consistency. The aromas are very pronounced. I like them but some may like them more subdued from some of the other reviews I have read.
