Who knows why we sometimes react so differently to the same great products.

I agree the Williams analogy was probably unfair - I have a puck of Williams but haven't worked up the nerve to try it yet - just sitting there stinkin' up the closet.

If you try DRH (and I heavily recommend it!), I'd start with arlington or marlboro. The almond is a classic to some but violently abusive to the sinuses of others, so I wouldn't start there.
Don't you think, as a shave soap conniseur, that you need to at least try the venerable and detested...er, I mean respected Williams? I would think as a citrus scent fan, the citronella/lemon smell would work for you. I actually liked the scent of Williams. I just didn't like all the weepers.

Do tell, where did you locate NOS Trumper's Rose?

C.O. Bigelow in Chicago. Like Penhaligon's, available only in the bowl.

it's sittin there in my closet looking at me longingly. i just can't take the smirks from my other soaps when I look at it.

I also think my wife might realize I have more than one shaving soap if the 21st anchor hocking bowl disappears from the kitchen cabinets......

    Default English Shaving Soaps

    Gentlemen,

I concur with most positive comments about British shave soaps and creams.

Let's face it: The English are the masters of the shave.

There, I fixed that for you. Their shave soaps are incredible (scents in AS and EDCs too), but that's about where the excellence stops

    My dear Richmondesi,

I wrote exactly what I meant: that the British are master of the "shave." It covers more than just shave soaps. When it comes to shaving, they know how to do it right.

    Regards,

    Obie

I know what you meant. I was just noting my disagreement. Nothing too serious though, brother.
