    Default Lathering Challenged

ops: Okay, is it me or what. I cannot get a decent lather whipped up in anything other than a shallow mug.
I started a long time ago with my Grandfathers silverplated antique mug which is very wide but only 2" tall. I can easily whip up gobs of lather in that old mug with either a boar or badger brush. I also have one of those shallow Old Spice mugs for trying out other soaps. Same deal, easy to whip up a lather.
Now I have tried 2 antique, deep shaving mugs and just don't feel like there is enough room to get a good swirl motion going. I whip it back and forth, twirl it around (the shaving brush boys, not what you're thinking) and not much lather. The brush gets loaded with soap but never froths up.

Am I the only one or am I religated to shallow mugs only ops:

Your not alone there Tony. me too. I now use my deep shaving mug as pen and pencil holder. Mind you I now have an extra large Vulfix super badger brush. I got it after I had changed to low rim soap containers. This larger badger brush might work fine with the deeper mugs.

    Hal,
Yed, pen and razor holders. I still buy inexpensive older shaving mugs when I like the looks of them but all have been religated to pen of razor holders and my Grandfathers old mug gets used daily.

For keeping my razors, I use some hand made pencil/pen holders, with old style Hangul (Korean) scripted rice paper laquered on them. I have three matching holders (needing four) for my current rotation.

I use a scuttle which is shallow and I don't have any trouble so maybe depth is an issue.

I use a small stainless steel mixing bowl. I fill it with hot water before working my lather. Once the lather is ready, I "float" it in my hot pot. From time to time I have to re-work the lather, but overall, the results are great!
