Proraso Shaving Creams
I just tried out some Proraso Shaving Cream I got for my travel kit. I got the original formula (green tube). It should last a long time. One small dollop will do ya for two passes easily. Has anyone tried the Proraso "wheat germ" formula? It's supposedly very good for sensitive skin.

Thanked: 0I use both the Proraso green tube as well as red(wheat germ) tube creams. I love them both but prefer the red tube. They are great products. From what I've read on most of the wet shaving forums my opinion is in the minority--most prefer the green tube formula. I still like the wheat germ formula. I also like Musgo Real, Taylors, and T&H, just to give you an idea of what I like. For the money, I think the Proraso and Musgo Real are great values.

Thanked: 0Proraso Shaving Creams
I use the green formula but an Italian guy I work with gets a Menthol formula sent to him from Italy it's only avaliable in a tub and has a light green label, he reckons it's better than the normal Green & the wheatgerm Formulas. Haven't seen it advertised on any site but I have dropped the hint for him to get me some.

Thanks guys. I'll definitely give the wheat germ a try. I'd be interested in their hard soap version too. I also use their pre-post shave cream that I often apply after a shave. Love the cool soothing sensation it offers.

Forgive my Philistine ignorance, but how does one use the creams with a brush?

Thanked: 17Creams with a brush.....well, MY prefered way is to hold the brush under the faucet with the tream in the center, therebyopening-up the "breach" - the middle of the bristle bundle.
Then, I load a small amount - about the size of an almond or so - of the cream INSIDE the opened breach. Moving to your face, as long as the bristles were loaded with water first, curcular motions will activate the cream, and Viola! Nice, warm, creamy lather begins, and increases as you work the brush!
With my badger, I can get about three full faceloads of nice lather from one brush-load of a good cream.
Godd luck! Let us know how it works out for you!

Thanked: 0With many shaving creams you have a couple of choices in style of use.
Another style is to rub the cream directly on your face after soaking your whiskers with hot water. Rub in where the whiskers are and use a medium load of hot water in the brush which will then lather directly on the face. When I do this I sometimes feel I am getting a better protection and a better shave. I did this with the Musgo Real this morning and use my old spike point PIC Soligen blade. I got a close shave but got me on the lip chin and throat with a knick because of distractions, at least they heal fast!
There is more than one way to skin a cat!
