Thanked: 52Regrating Soap
Does anyone perhaps have a link saved to a thread I read a while back about a picture tutorial on how to grate a hard soap and repress it into a bowl. I have searched but couldnt find it.

You may find the following videos helpful. The process is basically the same for what you would like to do and the technique used by this lady is pretty simple:
Hand Milling or French Milling Soap for Homemade Lye Soap Making | Expert Village Videos
I must point out that you are bound to lose some of the fragrance in your soap when you heat it up but you can also add some more to it during this step. Good luck and please let us know how it goes.

I am surprised that only one video is showing. There are more than one in the series. Let's see if this trick works to show you the page where the video came from, just add .htm at the end on your browser.

Its actually quite simple. Once the soap is grated, just press down on it with a cup or something.

Definitely depends on the soap too. Tallow based soaps are much better for grating. Glycerine based can be melted in the microwave with short bursts. 20 seconds or so. I've never had a loss of the scent by microwaving, but I'm sure it's possible.

I just take a carrot peeler to tallow soaps, press the shavings into whatever container you have a need for. It’s quick and easy. Don’t heat tallow soaps, it destroys their character, probably their fragrance too.
