    Default Proraso & English Fern

Friday, I used COBigelow/Proraso, and got a not so hot shave. It was my first shave with a new (vintage) razor I just got back from a good honing at the hands of Ken at Ruprazors. My technique with a straight is still under development, and will be for quite a while. Saturday, I put aside the COB and went for the EF. I'm glad to report a much better shave witht the same razor. I'm thinking the Proraso is much better with the DE razors. It is an excellent product, in my book, but just not the same slickness and protection that I'm needing with the straight razors right now.

By the way, does anyone else beside me notice any vague similarities between English Fern and MWF? Part of it may just be my out-of-whack olfactories, but I think they share in two aspects, something about the fragrance, and the quality and protection of the shave.

Gary, you just made my day...EF is like MWF, except with that great EF scent?
    Maybe it's the tallow?

Me and proraso Don't get along. I always end up nicking myself, even when I shave with a DE + proraso, and I'm pretty darn proficient with a DE.

I gave up and my tube just sits in a drawer. I gave it one too many chances to redeem itself -- it never happened though

Maybe you're the same as me?

Well, here's another data point -- Proraso is my
go-to creme. It works exceptionally well for me,
and doesn't irritate my skin like many others.

    Weird!

I've enjoyed good success with both, yet very different experiences. Proraso is a thinner, very slick lather while EF and MWF is a cushiony(sp?) rich lather. Love Proraso in the summer months. Just my thoughts though.

Scott, I am willing to bet that your technique with a straight is much advanced over mine, and if I was perfectly honest with myself, I'd probably say that the inadequacies I experienced were probably due, at least in some ways, more to "operator error" than the lather.

If you like the Proraso scent, you might want to try the Omega cream. Pretty much the same, but there's some additional lanolin in the Omega. I find it a little more protective than the Proraso.
