Thanked: 52Does anyone lather directly on top of their soap
Just wondering if anyone lathers directly on top of there soap in a mug. If so does this seem to make it easier to get water ratio correct because the soap lathers to the amount of water you have on the brush or put in the mug?

I lather directly in the sense that I twirl the wet brush on the puck until I feel it is sufficiently loaded and then I go to the lathering bowl. I have to do the same with the Castle Forbes cream. The stuff is too stiff for the almond sized dollop in the bowl IME.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 271I did for years and years until I got a scuttle and started lathering in the bowl. IMO the only difference is that, when you lather in a bowl, you use a lot less soap, not to mention that the scuttle keeps the lather warm, which I like.

Thanked: 52I was going more for a directly on top meaning just using the soap mug. Not face lathering but actually doing all the lather building in the mug that holds the soap. I have been loading and using a seperate mug to build but would like to know if anyone has success using just one mug...or if it would waste a ton if soap.

Thanked: 52Thats kind of what I thought...but I also thought if I got good lather that the price would outweight the loss in soap. I guess what I mean is if I can get lather easier I dont care if I waste

Thanked: 13245I do the old fashioned way for two soaps, my HoneyBee Spas Old Spice in a vintage Old Spice mug and the Williams on top of my Pop's old shaving scuttle....
It works out just fine, and yes it is rather easy to adjust the water ratio since you can add more soap or more water in an instant...

Thanked: 52Thanks Glen
I guess I am trying to reduce my stuff. I only use one soap, Tabac, so thought I could just use the same mug and have an all in one and only take up a little space. I havea small den...not much counter space and I only have 1 razor 1 brush use 1 soap and plan to build a nice little rack to store my DE, Straight, tooth brush, shave brush, mug to keep in the corner of my sink so if I could do this it would be perfect.
PS I have tried face lathering and dont like it much that is why i didnt make that an option for reducing my stuff.

I do when I'm traveling and don't have a scuttle. I put my soap into containers (as depicted here: http://straightrazorpalace.com/shavi...adventure.html ) for travel, and i just lather up in the container when traveling.

Yes, I lather directly on top of the soap in the mug that I inherited from from my Granddad.
He used it for all his shaving, and it's the way I remember him using it when I were a young boy.
