Aha! There are at least two of us! Pretty soon, we'll be classified as a new species, Straightshavus Tabacscent Neutralis as opposed to just odd mutation or subspecies.

I think I might be gettng weirder.

I'd like to reply on the regional angle to your question, Dustin. I personally don't know of any place in the Twin Cities that sells Tabac shaving soap. There is a perfume shop, I think it's in Burnsville Center, that sells Tabac cologne. I think the cologne, aftershave, and soap are near dead ringers to each other, and that'd give you an idea. I've always ordered Tabac products online.

I don't live in the metro area proper, but I'm in there 5 days a week for work, and usually on weekends. If you want, I could bring my Tabac cologne and aftershave in, we could meet somewhere, and you would be welcome to get a noseful. It might help you make the decision. Send me a PM. Some people can't stand Tabac's scent, but I like it. The soap is amazing, too.

Awesome thread. I was just wondering the other day where to buy good creams and soaps in the MSP metro area. Does anyone know of any stores that sell good shaving supplies?

Well so far I found "kiss my face" at Byerlys and AOS stuff at several places. Proraso can be had at every Bath and Body WOrks. There are a couple soap stores in MOA though I didn't check them out the other day when I was there because there was some psycho trying to sell my wife a straightening iron right outside the stores. TH is available at Heimie's.

Definitely not a huge selection. I ended up buying some AOS cream until I can try out the other brands just to have something that was not proraso. The Proraso was trying to disintegrate my face I think. I don't get along with Menthol all that well I found out.

I got the samples from erictski which I appreciate very much. I haven't tried the mamabears yet but there is enough tabac for at least 2 shaves and maybe 3. I tried it out this morning. Before whipping it smelled very soapy. After I built a lather it still smelled really soapy with maybe a hint of spicy musk to it. Not unpleasant but not wonderful. At first I was thinking it might not grow on me with the other choices out there but then I used it to shave and unless the glycerin soap is like nirvana then I think the quality of the tabac will force the scent to grow on me. I think the harder soaps are going to be my main intrest for sure so now I just need to track them all down lol...

My take on the difference between soap and cream is what surprised me the most. I have been using AOS and proraso creams. I hate the proraso, the menthol irritates my face something fierce. That said, the creams are very thick and cusioning though slightly sticky. I never felt the blade against my skin with the cream. The cream also left a nasty stubble filled residue in my sink which my wife can't stand. The soap was very slick rather than sticky. I could definitely feel the blade against my skin but it moved over it better. I had no irritation from it and liked feeling the edge to know exactly where it was. It also wasn't as thick on my face which made moving from side to side feel better with less unloading of the blade. The best part was when I pulled the plug. Everything, stubble and all, swooped right down the drain with no residue on the sink. That alone may make me more of a soap guy.

Glad you like the Tabac. It really is a good soap slick and protective. I love it and will always have some in rotation. I actually like the smell cuz I even bought the Cologne splash. Wearing it today. Probably do a Tabac Shave tomorrow morning

    Thanks for the link!

I tried the mamabears today. It was very nice and I will likely buy some of her soaps as well. I do give the edge to the tabac on quality of the shave but it is ever so slight. The scents available definitely make them worthwhile. Another day, another very nice shave.

    Thanks again Erictski!

I haven't found any good soap yet except for the rebranded Proraso at Bath and Body Works and VDH at Walgreens and Walmart.

You should check out the William Marvy Co. in Saint Paul, they have the full Pinaud and Masters lines of aftershave and I bought a strop there. I would think that the MOA would almost have to have something there as I found a nice badger brush at Nordstroms this spring.

Does the place in St Paul have brushes and strops in stock? I would like to upgrade both of those items in the near future. I know there is a place that sells e-shave stuff in Minneapolis though haven't been there. Macys has AOS stuff as does a few other places.

I ordered a cake of Tabac from SRD that showed up today so at least that is covered. I got a couple 1 oz pucks from TGQ as well.
