Thanked: 137Anyone know anything about these soaps?
Hey guys, was just messing round on Amazon and came across an outfit called Mountain Country Soap, who sell a sampler of 3 different 2.5 oz pucks. I'm keen to try them out (especially the Limelight Bay one) but wasn't sure of the quality - had a quick search on here but nothing came up. Has anyone tried this brand?
Just for all of you out there with SSAD, the sampler is here :Amazon.com: Shaving Soap Sampler - 3 Bars: Health & Personal Care

Thanked: 3Never heard of those soaps, 2.5 oz doesn't seem like a "sampler" size, though. The multi-use description makes me think that they are not specifically formulated for shaving, that maybe shaving was just thrown in as an afterthought. I'm no expert, though.

Thanked: 137Yeah, I think they're just calling it a sampler 'cos they give you one of each scent, rather than the usual 3 pucks of the same scent. I'm a little suspicious of them, cos the review for one of the single soap items is suspiciously positive, and almost sounds like they wrote it themselves.

You never know...could be great, could be crap. I give good odds that it's the latter, but like I said, you never can tell.

Yeah, I may be completely off base here but that review certainly sounds like it was written by someone who is either the owner/proprietor or one of the biggest soap junkies I've ever seen. I'm not one to knock any product as different strokes for different folks but for about the same price you can get a sample pack from Collen at The Gentleman's Quarter, who's soaps and creams are specific to shaving.
Again, these might be very fine soaps that provide maximum comfort while shaving so I do not want to discourage their purchase or use. I guess the "cold water" comment in the review really threw me?
If you do purchase and try, let us all know how they work.
Enjoy.

Thanked: 3Hahaha, the review by "Richard Barber"??
Seems a lil fishy. Think the "review" was catered to anyone in particular?

They do have their own web site mountaincountrysoap.com
My personal experience with olive oil based shaving soaps hasn't been all that great. Makes for a very thin and pretty much non existing lather. Even with all the added shea butter,... ingredients.
I haven't been able to find a true review about this soap by any of the DE or Str8 users. There's plenty of other known and established soap makers. Worse case scenario you can use it as a bath or shower soap, if you do decide to try em out.
