Hey there Shylock. I use Olive oil sometimes for straight shaving. I like everything about it except the clean up. If I am careful at the sink, the clean up isnt so bad. I like shaving with just Olive oil because it works suprisingly well. When I first started straight shaving, I used Olive oil in lieu of lather/soap. Extra Virgin seems to leave my skin properly moisturized in the summer but -oddly enough - not the winter.
To answer your question ... yeah sure. It can be done.
Just keep your razor hand oil free.

I use olive oil as a preshave also. I rub a dime size drop rubbed in to the skin before the first hot towel works wonders for the feel of the shave.

I have tried it as a preshave and stand alone lube for shaving. I wish it worked better for me- I'd love using it if it did

I just tried it a couple of minutes ago.
Straight Olive Oil, no shave cream. It worked really good for me. Before I had trouble doing XTG and ATG. XTG is smooth and easy with the oil and ATG is painless unless I mess up. It seriously cut down on nicks since I can see what I'm doing. That's the biggest plus. No shave cream foam to cover up the subtle curves of your jaw line.
It's cheap enough it's worth at try.![]()
