Default Hydrolast Cutting Balm from Enchante

I have been trying Hydrolast Cutting Balm from Enchante as a part of my shaving regimen. I was initially abit skeptical but believe now that I have used it for a month that this stuff really works. I use it just before my final clean-up which for me is the third time over against the grain. What I have discovered is this stuff rehidrates the face and makes the face really really smooth. Combined with a super sharp razor it can't be beaten.

My issue is that this stuff is as high as current gas prices. I was wondering if someone else has used it and found something else that is much cheaper but does the same job? If so let me know. Would like to try it.

By the way, I put on the Cutting Balm, which is oil like, then paint my face with lather. Have had no problem with gumming up my Vulfix brush. Maybe that is because I soak my brush in hot, hot water prior to ever using.

Man you're not kidding! I was looking at thier products, Momma. I'm quickly finding out that many of these expensive products are worth the money.

I just had my first shave with the Sandalwood cutting balm. I tried it without lather for a third pass. I have a noticeably glassy finsish after using this product; VERY close. There are several ways to use this stuff, so have a look at this article if you are considering it.

I've read that the cutting balm is about 99% jojoba oil and that you can often get the same results with hair conditioner massaged into your beard during your shower. Opinion/observations on this? $35 for a 4oz. bottle is a little hard to swallow right now.

A barber that I know also recommends using hair conditioner. That and 5 hot towels.
I have used hair conditioner in the past and it did result in a closer shave. Currently I am experimenting with some other stuff. Thats half the fun of this wet shaving!

I'm still playing with the cutting balm. I'm just not sure. I think you have to use quite a bit of pressure to get a cut for some reason. It's very slippery. It reminds me of some hair stuff called Silk that Mrs. dog uses. I layed a nice layer of lather over a very thin coat for third pass today with pretty good results.
    Just not sure yet.

i think chris fisher once used to use straight jojoba oil and said it was a good way to use it for touch ups. i use the QED shave stick, just wet the face and rub the stick over the face and dont make a lather. i can buff like no tomorrow with it. very slick, almost as slick as crowley's goose snot!!!!!! lol
