Thread: Homemade cream?

Okay so I saw the "redneck" soap that jockys makes and it looked like a great idea. I fully plan on trying to round up the ingredients tomorrow. But it really got me to thinking, could I make my own cream? I currently use C.O. Bigelow's cream with some cull walmart brand soap and a little glycerine to make uberlather. (I live in Oklahoma City and to the best of my knowledge there aren't any good places around here to procure a good soap. I also don't want to amass a huge inventory of soaps from the Internet as I try to find one I like. Hence the cull walmart soap.) I fancy myself quite the chef so I'm sure if someone has a cream recipe that I could follow it. But then again I can normally taste my concoctions and adjust as needed. Basically does anyone have a good cream recipe (preferably one that I could play with the fragrances and oils in)? And I know this isn't the forum for it but I wouldn't mind a good aftershave recipe either. You know, so my scents match. Any help would be great!

Creams are fussy to make and they take 6-8 weeks before they are ready to use. My suggestion is to google shave cream recipe's and see what comes up for you.

there is a way to create your own cream but from what I heard it is very hard.To put it in simplest terms you need to make a soup from lye and fat, then place it in a slow cooker for a single night this helps it from being as lye heavy when this is done you put it in a stand mixer and wipe it with water. Then wait a week when this is done its ready to use. The main thing is to be careful Im trying this out next week and hope it turns out.

Be careful what oils you use or you will end up with a very foamy lather that does not hold up for shaving. Works fine for a cream facial soap, but really stinks at dense creamy lathering

Yep, like others have said- too hard to just whip up something quick. My advice is to go to the closest bookstore, check out the hobby section, and get a book on soap making. Most of them have all the tips you need, plus recipes and how to get started.

I've tried to find some recipes on google. They all seem to be a quick single use type thing. Or at least that was the impression I got. I'm really looking for something I can make a decent sized batch of and put in tubs. I know it won't be easy, or quick for that matter, but I have plenty of patience. He'll, I brew my own beer.
