Thanked: 137TOBS Scents
Hey all,
I'm looking at buying myself some TOBS creams to add to my shaving arsenal. I've already decided on their Lavender, but am not sure about which to get out of St James, Mr Taylor, and Eton College, since I'm not sure what they actually smell like. Can someone give me some thoughts on their respective scents that I can use to make a decision on which to buy?
Cheers,
Tom

Thanked: 1903They're very British scents (think public school without a charlady). They're excellent creams, but I would not buy them before obtaining a sample.

I was in a similar situation. I ordered three tubs of TOBS ( always wanted to say that ) and went for Lemon/Lime, Avocado and eventually Mr Taylor. I decided on Mr Taylor after reading several reviews that mentioned it's " traditional " scent that was both refeshing and warm. This sounded like a good contrast to the other two scents I'd ordered and as I wanted a variety I took the plunge on Mr Taylor. When the three arrived I had anticipated going for the Lemon/Lime or Avocado first, but after opening them all and having a good sniff I immediately lathered up with Mr Taylor. It is everything people said about it and more, the lather has been reviewed on this very site, but the scent went way beyond what I was expecting. It seemed I was hit by hints of citrus, lavender and woodsy, musky notes every few seconds. Obviously our tastes differ, but I can very much recommend Mr Taylor! It's the signature scent after all!

I've tried 3 or 4 of the TOBS and liked all of them except for Eton College. The scent is okay- along the lines of a "new" cologne or something like that. Definitely not something I would seek out, though. It is also the only SC I have ever tried that noticeably dried my face out after using it.
I know it's not in your list, but my favorite TOBS has been the Avocado. It does not smell like "avocado" but has avocado oil in it for moisturizing. I get a scent similar to fresh cut grass with it. Just a great cream for me and in my top 3 all time.

I just got a tub of TOBS Lemon & Lime Shaving Cream, after having smelled my way through about 12 different scents from TOBS. Have already had my first shave with it and am loving it! Very nice refreshing smell. Can highly recommend it.

Certainly illustrates how the choice of scents is a highly personal one. Eton Collage is my TOBS scent of choice, having previously used the MrTaylor and Sandalwood creams and aftershaves. My assumption would be that TOBS would send you some small samples or scent cards if you request them.

Thanked: 137I'm really after an objective description here, along the lines of "it's spicy, with a lavender scent and notes of musk" or whatever it may smell like - I know what I like, so a description of the scent itself would be very helpful, rather than personal opinions on a scent - a "new cologne" description doesn't tell me much about the scent itself .
