Default body shop, CE, etc ...

i went around some stores today. visited body shop, crabtree & evelyn and a barber's. I was looking at the body shop shave cream for $11 (if i remember correctly) canadian. has anybody used this and what are your thoughts on it? also i was looking at some CE shave soaps, sienna, sandalwood, and nomad. these are prices at $25 with teakwood bowl and $10 for refill. I would like you input on these as well. the other thing i came across at the barber's was an american crew shave cream, prices $16. out of all of these what would you suggest? i was also looking at a body shop shave oil, does this improve the shave and is it worth it at $10 for a small bottle. and has anybody come across the real shaving co. shave cream? i found this priced down to $3.99 at shoppers. i figured i should give it a try at such a low price, but maybe it isn't worth it. has anybody come across this shave cream?

    thank you.

I have the Crabtree & Evelyn Sandalwood and I like it. The lather has an acceptable thickness to it and the product delivers decent cushion and glide. I have a couple of problems with this product: 1) the lather somewhat dries out on me, but not too bad; 2) the shaves are not too close when I use it; and 3) I am extremely allergic to it. I am not not satisfied with the conditioning of the product. I found a ways to make it less irritating but still does a bit. If your skin is not as sensitive as mine, this should be no problem for you. In summary, if I have to only pick one product, this one would not be at the top of the list but for the price, it is more than satisfactory in my opinion. If I have to pick one in a similar price range, I will go with Tabac with my eyes closed, excellent product.

I think that many people here use and like The Body Shop Cream. My understanding is that there are 2 formulations for this product, with the current containing Maca root. I have heard good comments about both. There are several threads about it, you may want to take a look at them.

    Al raz.

Here's a review of the Maca root from the body shop by Sparq. I've tried it too & it's not bad at all.
    Not tried any C.E.
Was talking to a barber just today about the American Crew stuff. He had it amongst all his other offering. It's suited to a DE, but not much good for a straight, apparently. It doesn't lather, you see. I got some Edwin Jagger instead & very good it is too!

I have the Body Shop Maca Root cream and like it a lot. Some have a problem with the smell, but The Body Shop usually have a tester tub you can open and have a sniff.

I LOVE The Body Shop Maca Root cream. It's made by the same people who make Truefitt & Hill, Trumper's, Taylors et. al., namely Creighton's. however, if you can find it, The Real Shaving Company is IDENTICAL and even cheaper. It's a drugstore brand, as I understand it.

The Real Shave Company stuff has just been repackaged and the stuff in the old packaging is currently available in Poundland stores here in the UK. I plundered my local store for cream and AS balm, although I wish I hadn't bothered with the facial scrub. Horrible stuff.

I actually have both the Body Shop Maca Root and the Real Shaving cream. I could tell they were the same, because they look identical. When I feel for a cleaner scent, I go for the Body Shop, if I feel like smelling good I use the Real Shaving.
