    Default Crabtree and Evelyn

Got some of their Sandalwood shaving soap the other day. Comes in a nice wooden bowl. Used it last night and really like it. Got a decent shave, and no major irritation.

I have the same soap too and I like it as well. I have very sensitive skin and this soap gave me a horrible case of allergies when I used it for the first time. I think that it had to do with the fact that I got it before this new batch even reached the stores. It is no longer a problem for me and it should not be for anybody else trying to experiment with it. In a more technical note, I think this stuff lathers well and provides somewhat decent cushion and glide but the conditioning is not right for me. The lather can dry out if it is not well hydrated and the scent, although I like it, is not really that great in my opinion but that is completely personal. For $18 is not a bad one to try. In this price range, I prefer other products that include Tabac and Caswell Massey (a real bargain @ $11 with the bowl where I bought it). I know that I am in the minority here with the later. I think that a lot of people deny themselves the pleasure of experimentation when they hear negative comments about a product. Others simply compound them with a single unsuccessful use of the product.

Al, have you tried Mother Mabel's from Maine Gentlemen's Shaving Soap? It is probably the best soap I have ever used for face lathering; and IMO should work well for people with sensitive skin. They have them in local Whole Food Market stores.

    Thumbs up

Yep. Got the "Nomad" and it lathers up quickly & easily and has good glide. Nice wooden bowl, even if you don't get refills you still have a nice, humble, quality wooden bowl with lid for your other soaps.

Strikes me that most of the major companies make their soap/bowl just different enough to make it awkward to use with another makers soap.

I tried Nomad, Sandalwood and Sienna. The first two left me with a relatively dry skin. Sienna was just right for me, so that's the one I have.
    I have a C&T store nearby. Useful!

    Unhappy

Oh my, Crabtree & Evelyn is one of the two stores I have found within malls that actually sell wet-shaving supplies (together with The Body Shop). I really like their products, the Maca Root and Sandalwood shave creams seem good enough for me at my 4 months of SR shaving...

One thing is I would like to sample other brands and scents but it seems that there are almost no more stores that sell wet-shaving stuff around... I was thinking to ask some barbers around, but it all seems that they all make their own soaps (you see, I live in a small town, and I have not found a single barbershop in the city)... ugh, I know I can always get it shipped from abroad but it is a bit more expensive (and takes time :P)

Oh god, I am so tired of spending hours and hours on the internet trying to find an actual store dedicated to wet shaving... The thing is, I live in Mexico...

    Any advice? Thanks...
