In my cups!
In my cups!
With half a dozen different mugs each with a different shave soap I
can be said to be in my cups some days.
Recently I have been exploring common shaving creams
and potions trying to find one that my face
and skills work well with.
Because it was inexpensive and in front of me at the store
I picked up a can of name brand shave gel to try on the next
morning.
I like to use off the shelf disposable single or double edge blades to
compare shave soaps with. A lot of important qualities are only seen
after using a soap five days in a row. Five days is about the same
length of time I get out of one of these shavers. I get to try the soap
from the sometimes harsh first half a shave to the last scraping tugging
day of a spent blade. It takes all phases in the life of an edge
for me to get a feel for the soap. Since I am allergic to many potions
five days lets me see if I react to the mix.
The night before, I set out a fresh disposable shaver
and the new soap ready for the next day.
Morning arrived a bit too soon but true to my goals I took a hot
shower, filled the basin with hot water and applied the gel as per
the directions.
I began to shave....
Wow was that smooth! No tug no nick. This was the ultimate in a BBS
shave in the making.
Shaving with, cross and against the grain smooth as can be it did not
matter. I think I may have found the secret elixir for my face and hand
such joy, such elation...
It felt as if there was no blade, as if I was hardly shaving
at all.
Oh bother I forgot to remove the blade guard.

Great story! Reminds me of the time I lent my brother-in-law a disposable and he cursed the ineffectiveness of the blade. Then I showed him how to put it in the 'shave' position. (No, I don't use those things any more. This was in my misspent youth.)
