Thanked: 0soap too large to put into the mug
I have a few soaps which I cannot put inside my mug. Understand from this forum that the soap can be melted. How can I melt the soap? Using the microwave oven ? what is the setting? If I don't have a microwave oven, what else can I do? Can I steam it?
Thanks for your advice.

Be Very Careful...
Tom,
Melting soaps can be a risky business. Not all soaps melt in the microwave. Scented soaps have flash points that can permanently effect the scent. Glycerine soaps melt easily and quickly. Most soaps containing Bentonite Clay (Ray's soaps at ClassicShaving, for example) melt nicely. Don't try it with Taylor's, Trumpers or T&H soaps. My rule of thumb for melting soaps...if you're not sure it will melt, slice off a very small piece and try it. Hard soaps, like the three T's, may be melted by shaving or grating them into a double boiler. I have never tried this, but have read where others have had success. Here's a link to a thread I put together at ShaveMyFace.com regarding melting shaving sticks from QED:

I've successfully melted soaps from ClassicShaving, QEDUSA, Col. Conk, and Em's Place. I have ruined a cake of Williams.
Best of luck, and remember, if you attempt to melt a soap, you do so at your own risk. If you ruin the item, don't expect the manufacturer of the soap to provide any replacements.
