    Red face Too much Proraso?

Yesterday I was walking around the Village with my wife (can't wait to move there!) and came across the CO Bigelow Pharmacy on 6th Ave. Since I hadn't tried Proraso yet, I grabbed the tub of shave soap and the tube of shave cream thinking they were different and I could use each alone or make some Italian Uber-lather. (Yeah, I think I found my AD. )

Here's the thing - are the green tub and the tube the same stuff or are they a lot different? If they're the same I guess I'll be giving one to my brother...

PS - for anyone in NYC there are a bunch of apothecaries and pharmacies with nice shaving supplies in Greenwich and West Village. Definitely worth a field trip if you want to stock up!

Their cream does come in tubes and tubs, but they may have other products that do as well. If they are both shave cream, they are probably the same thing. As far as I know, Proraso does not make a soap.

I've got both also. The tub is a little thicker than the tube. Other than that I am not aware of any difference. If you're moving there in the near future give one to your brother whether they're different or not. The tube is a bit easier to find as it is also sold in Bath and Body Works. The tub I have is from Target purchased several years ago. I think I have a lifetime plus of soaps and creams on hand so the stuff lasts a while.

As far as I know it is the same stuff - the tubed version is less subjected to air and remains slightly more moist and as it is squeezed through the tube is subjected to pressure also, evidently churning it to some degree.

The white tub however, is slightly different to the green tub. It is for sensitive skin and has a very slightly different scent and texture.

For what it's worth, Proraso does call the stuff in the tubs "sapone" (as opposed to "crema"). In truth, it's sort of something in between.

EDIT: Nevermind, just checked on their website and they use the same term for both: soap!

As for any difference, there isn't a whole lot, but I've found the green cream (tube) to have slightly more of a menthol kick than the green soap (tub).

On a side note, does the Bigelow line make an analog of the white tubs of Proraso?

    Paul,

I have both on the countertop of my shave den. They are the same in formulation...The only differnce, to my mind, is the consistency. The tube's contents, as you probably know by now, has a creamier consistency. The contents of the green tub is the same formulation, but is more like a soap in consistency and therefore will probably last longer.

Proraso also makes a shave "cream" in a white tub that contains aloe vera.

Yeah, it looks like it's called "Sapone" in Italian on both the tub and the tube. But in English, it's soap for the tub and cream for the tube. I'll give 'em both a whirl and then give one to my brother at our upcoming soap & cream swap.

    Thanks for the input fellas!

How many shaves would it take to go through the whole tub and the whole tube? Using it normally of course.

Ive been through a tub and a half so far, but without using Prorasso exclusively i.e. I have a rotation of soaps. I'd put my name to it that you could have 100 shaves out of a tub, using a standard 3 passes.
