    Default CarrieM's Cream (Pre-Review)

'Ello, ladies and gents! I just received my first real shipment of CarrieM's Sensational Shaving Stuff... Her cream. Since I have yet to use it -class until 1 or 2pm- I have only the smell to go by, and what a smell it is... So, this thread is mostly just opinions based on the samples that Paul (BingoBango) sent me (Thanks again!) and upon the scents and fragrances of the creams pre-use. Once I've given them a run through tonight, there will be a Review.

    On with the show:

The three scents I ordered -after much internal struggle!- were Orange Vanilla (a request of mine, two of Carrie's normal scents blended), Black Raspberry Vanilla (anyone who shaves should have some of this for their SWMBO -and personal- delight) and some Lilac (I don't have much preference in flowery scents, They're good, but not the be-all-end-all... Olivia -SWMBO- however, latched onto the Lilac sample that Paul sent and wouldn't let it out from under her nose until I promised to use it then give it back, so it's a keeper) Carrie also included two samples: First Frost (I'm assuming a mentholated cream.. I can't smell it but for a faint hint) and Lime (A little too powerful for my tastes, but a wonderful lime scent to be sure!)

Well, From the samples I received I can assure you that with this stuff you will have a very nice, whipped cream lather that will moisturize wonderfully and leave you smelling excellent.. However, that is info for a review... For now I'll focus on scents, since that is more personal and I like to keep personal preference out of a review.

Lilac - Oh my, this is good stuff! Theres a wonderfully sweet top note to this, it's beautifully fragrant and very true to name. It has a lovely fresh floral scent. I've always liked flowery scents... not my favorite, but never bad... this is in a completely different pantheon. It's just a great smell that I'm very fond of and my lady LOVES.

Black Raspberry Vanilla - Wow. Just wow. If Carrie hadn't had the forethought to put "Shave Cream" under "Black Raspberry Vanilla" I would have mistook it for yogurt and taken a spoon to it! It smells absolutely wonderful, Bright, bursting fruit scent, rich, sweet vanilla. It's just tops.

Orange Vanilla - This one is very unique... I can't describe the scent too well unless you have experience with it... Well, I'd hazard it as 60-70% vanilla, 40-30% orange... It's a very nice smell, but what it really makes me think of -if any of you remember these- DreamSicles. The Orange popsicles with the vanilla icecream filling... This Shave cream smells EXACTLY like a DreamSicle, and I like that a lot!

Carrie's Scents are top notch, no question, and the cream is Great stuff. To quote Lynn about a completely unrelated issue "It's slicker'n owl shit."... Okay, that was supposed to be a compliment in this context. It's great lubrication, and great moisture.

EDIT: Also, the lime scent is starting to grow on me... In smaller concentrations, it is a wonderful scent!

I too just received Carrie’s cream. I have to say, her product is great! I add a drop of cream into my soap lather to make a very thick lather.

This is the first time I have ever used a cream since becoming a straight shaver. It is NOTHING like the crap in the can!

Carrie also had zero shipping delays which really made everything smooth! (No pun intended) ;-)

I just bought a set of 8 samples so I could figure out what fragrance I want. Before Carrie's cream, I was using in the C.E. Bigelow.

Her creams are much more moisturizing, and more slippery than the Bigelow - the blade definitely glides better with Carrie's creams. They make a very nice whipped cream lather, and you really don't need to use much of the cream at all, I'm using significantly less than when I use C.E. Bigelow. I really like the feel of my face better with her creams than with the Bigelow.

You should really evaluate scents on you, not in the jar. The scent can be quite different on your skin. I've tried 4 of the 8 scents at this point (Dragon's Blood, Bamboo & Teak, Raspberry Vanilla, and Bay Rum). They are all subtle, but most are also very long lasting - for me, the scent of the Bay Rum does not last as long as the others I have tried. You can tell she's using quality fragrances. I really want to narrow this down to my two favorite scents, but I'm already having difficulty choosing among three. Sigh.

I'm actually not a fan of the Raspberry Vanilla that everyone else is raving about. It smells like very good yoghurt, but that's not the way I want to smell. I can tell it's good quality fragrance, just not my thing. More importantly, my wife doesn't like it on me. I'm trying to figure out how to give it to one of my daughters without giving away my shaving brush.
