Mixed things up a bit, cream vs soap.
Tonight I finally got around to order some soap and stuff, so now I have some soodies on its way.
Just wondered: do any of you guys have any opinions on prorasso soap and tabac cream? I Planned to get PR cream and Tabac soap, but mixed things a bit up.
Are they just as good as tabac soap and prorasso cream?

The Proraso cream and soap are pretty much the same stuff in different packaging. If you look at the Italian words, they both say "Sapone." I think the soap in the tub might be aerated a bit.

Thanked: 137Bingo - the cream and soap are quite different - the soap's noticably firmer, in the vein of Valobra and other soft soaps, while the cream is definitely a cream - a similar consistency to TOBS, Pre de Provence, EJ etc etc. You can use a snurdle of the soap like you would a cream, but it's a right bugger to get to lather completely - you usually end up chasing a half-snurdle of it around the lather in your mug with the brush, trying to get it to lather properly.
Flyboy - I use Omega soap, which I've been told is simply Proraso soap under another brand - it makes excellent uberlathers with my Proraso cream, and is passable on its own. I can't comment personally on the Tabac cream, but I've heard good things about it on here as well, and plan to buy some in the near future.

but how is the proraso soap if I just use it the way soap is intended to be used, loading the brush, then building the lather

Thanked: 137Like I said - I've been told it's the same as my Omega soap (have a look under the soap reviews), and it's passable on its own - it lathers easily and provides plenty of lather from a single loading, but I personally find the slick a little lacking compared to Tabac or TGQ, hence why I use it in ubers now. You may be fine with the slick however - I have sensitive skin, hence why I have issues with soaps that aren't more slippery than a seabird in an oil slick.

To me, the Proraso cream seems a bit more mentholated than the soap. Could have something to do with the amount of each I use, but that's the impression I've gotten after having them for a while. They do seem to be the same stuff, otherwise.
As for Tabac, the scent of the cream is a dead ringer for the soap, but it doesn't have tallow in it like the soap does, so the lather isn't quite as good, imo.
