    Default Soap ID help (please)

    Hiya,

I know the pickens are gonna be slim, but what the heck. I have a small soap puck with some sorta embossed emblem or letter that I just can't identify and maybe someone has seen this before. It came wrapped in clear plastic, and the pic shows an unused one.

I'd guess it's pretty old (40-50 years maybe) but can't be positive. The puck is a medium yellow and only weighs 44 grams. There's a hint of fragrance that's a nice marine or fresh air type of thing.

    Any clues would be appreciated,

    Martin

Oh, the other larger puck for comparison is an unused DR Harris soap.

Don't know what brand it is, but if it lathers well, you ought to go ahead and use it. If its old shaving soap it may very well be tallow based, which delivers very good shaves.

    Hiya,

So let's see now...........71 views so far and nada. Yeah, that sounds about right I'm afraid.

Well, maybe someone might recognize the puck down the road. I actually had two of those soaps and used one till it was gone. I'd like to find a way to pick up more, but I don't even have a name for the stuff.

    Sheeesh........what a goofy 'hobby'.

Interesting post, I don't believe I have ever seen a 'guess this soap.' Sure I read 'mystery hone' or 'ID this razor' quite frequently, but this is a first for me.

And I have no idea what it is either, but it looks very old because of the logo and its size. My questions are:

What is it like to use? Lathers, scent, shave etc and in comparison to what?

And where did you get two of them from?

    Hi there,

About a year ago I found two of these unused pucks at an estate sale. They were inside a large old shaving mug.

Took me six months before trying the stuff, and I used the one puck sparingly over a 5 month period. I'm having a hard time starting this last one, since I know I may never find it again. Sheeeesh!

I'd say this may well be my favorite soap. Great lather (both slip and cushion) and excellent post shave skin care, with a faint clean scent that I really enjoy. That small puck provided a good 30-40 shaves.

In my regular rotation I will use soaps like DR Harris, Institut Karite, and MWF, and I believe this unknown puck tops those. As a further reference, the post skin care equals the older Floris soaps, which was amazing.

So that's the deal. You can see why I'd like to find a few dozen pucks.......heh. It's tough though without a name or something to go on. Thanks for your input in any case.

That puck looks very nice, I want one too!

Shame you may never find any again...I'd say it more than likely is tallow based, judging by your opinion of its performance.

I found a soap that looks like the one in your pic here:

    Shaving Mug Soap

I bet it's a soap used by Barbers that they purchase in bulk....

    Hi there,

Thanks a lot for that link. I ended up making a few calls and I may soon have the answer to my question, thanks to you.

I'm gonna email a picture to someone who may have even made the stuff, and hopefully I'll get this particular monkey off my back.

I'll do a follow up reply if this is finally resolved, or even if it isn't.......
