Default Shave Soap Vs. Shave Cream

I bet this one has been discussed quite a bit, but I dont see a post recently on it so here goes....

Do you prefer shave soap or shave cream, and why?

I personally prefer shave soap simply because its what my dad always used. I have used a cream, and I did like it, but it never seemed quite....natural.

I actually prefer shaving soap, as I tend to get more skin problems from most creams than from a good soap.

Not to forget: IMO a good soap also lasts longer ...

I prefer the soap, but once in a while I will use cream. I have a few creams that are pretty nice, although for me I find it easier to get the perfect lather from soaps. I'm getting the creams down, but it was a slower learning process. Also, the soaps are more nostalgic.

I use both and also some of the non-lathering types of shave creams. I just walk up to my little shave shelf and pick out what I want to shave with today.

Have toyed around with the idea of creating a shave cream/soam/lotion rotation just like the razors but there are too many pre-shave, shave, after and shave combinations.

BOTH! Why limit myself? When I need a REALLY close shave, like if I think I might get lucky with SWMBO that evening, I'll grab a Harris or T&H soap. I really enjoy them all though.

I use predominantly cream, but I will use soap if I'm in a bit of a hurry. It's there, in the mug, you just make the lather and go, rather than getting a cream out and putting some in the bowl or whatnot.

I use 'em both. Variety is the spice of life!

    Question Soap? What's Soap?

I selected 'cream' because it's all I know. In the last 10 years I have used exactly 2 containers of shaving cream. The Lush Ambrosia Cream and something else natural in a tube that you whip up in your palm with your fingers. I wonder about the soaps though. Would they dry out my skin? Will they be as smooth? I suspect one day I'll get to find out.

    Cool

I prefer soap. 1) It's what I learned to use when I started and, 2) The water ratios on creams are all so different, I just don't care for the hit or miss with the variables involved. I've tried a few creams but they turn out to be such a bust for me, I'd just as soon stick with a nice scented soap.
