Neutrogena Skin Clearing Shave Cream
I bought some of this stuff quite by accident. I was shopping for "shave cream" while experimenting with uberlather recipes. I saw this and bought it. Well it's not foaming shave cream at all. What it is, is waterless shaving balm. Get this stuff on your brush and you can forget about making any kind of lather.
It's been sitting on my shelf and I figured "what the heck". I followed the instructions, and OMG. This stuff is wonderful. Even though you put it on microscopically thin, it's got plenty of cushion and lubricity. It's absolutely waterless so there's less mess (Ya, I do make a mess ). The shave is incredible and completely BBS. You can skip the preshave ritual if you like.
Does it replace nice warm uberlather with all the amenities after a refreshing weekend shower? NO. Does it deserve a place in the morning when I'm trying to cut time getting ready for work? You betcha!

I normally do not like foamless products but I have tried Caswell Massey 1752,which makes a bit of lather, and Zirh shaving creams. The former provides a lot of glide and leaves the face very smooth. I did not like the numbing sensation of the Zirh at all.

Thanked: 14I've had a tube of this sitting in my cabinet for months. Your post reminded me of that, and prompted me to use it this morning (thanks!). I was surprised by how well is worked, especially considering I expected the absolute worst from a shaving cream designed to work without lather. Indeed, my shave was quite good, though nowhere near what I have otherwise come to expect (using much higher priced creams). I would say that, for the price, it is superior to most generic foams or gels, but not quite in the class of other similarly priced products, like proraso for example. Specifically, I did not find it to be either as moisturizing or as comfortable as I would like. Maybe that has something to do with its anti-acne/razor burn formula. Those things are not usually a problem for me, though it may be useful for those for whom it is.
All-in-all, I may add it to my overnight travel bag.
