My dear thebigspendur:

Aw tell ya, that Festus feller we would love to have join our Saturday night scotch conversation. I know my friend Desdinova will slap his knee and holler a big, "Yeah."

Now, as for the Lone Ranger radio program, I was not the announcer — although I am old, I am not that old. I worked mostly in commercial classical music and jazz stations, and in NPR as classical music host as well as arts and feature reporter and essayist. My gigs were in San Diego, upstate New York, St. Louis, Milwaukee and Chicago.

By the way, since this thread is starting to float on an open sea, I did meet Clayton Moore, the star of the Lone Ranger TV series. I was working as a hat check boy at Chicago's Sherman Hotel, in the 1960s, and Moore was there for some event, wearing the tight outfit, the mask and the two pearl-handled six shooters. He seemed quite friendly.

I remember at that same event some old guy tried to pick me up. Standing behind the counter and guarding all the fancy coats and furs, I couldn't believe it. Come on, give me a break! I scratched my head and told myself, "It's just my luck that with all the gorgeous women sashaying in the joint I get the eye from a guy."

Years later I told my wife that story. She laughed and said, "Ah, but you were so cute."

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Obie
