Classic Shaving Soap...need help finding something else.
Well I got this mug and soap combo. http://www.classicshaving.com/catalo...57.htm#image_1 and although the mug is wonderful, I wasnt crazy about the soap. It wasnt bad, but the only way I could get a good lather was by adding more water than I wanted, which meant that while their were lots of bubbles, the mixture was a bit to watery. The soap was also a bit small for that mug IMO.
Now part of my lack of lather could be the fact that my badger brush is a cheapy, but I dont think it would make THAT big a difference since I get good lather with shaving creams, even though I dont like to use them.
Regarding the scent, it was a strong overall scent, but not a strong lavender scent. I smell much more soap than lavender, and a good strong lavender scent is my #1 priority.
Does anyone know of a soap that makes great lather, is a at least 3" in diameter (preferably a bit bigger), and one that has a very strong lavender scent, but not necessarily a strong soapy scent?? (if that makes sense)

JL,
When I ordered my first package from Ray, I ordered the Taylor's Lavender soap re-fill, or the soap w/o the bowl. I've used it too much to be able to give an accounting of it's original measurement, but I do like. Don't forget, part of your problem may be hard water affecting your lather.

If I had to, I guess I could deal with distilled water, but the lavender scent of the soap would have to be perfect, which IMO Classic's just isnt.

You might try the Taylor soap with is 3". You can buy
it a classic as well, $13.99 per cake. I've used classic
soap as well, the coconut which lathers great and has a
very pronounced scent and the fresh lime, this one lathers
great but the scent isn't quite as strong. www.greenpond.com
has DR Harris lavender soap, I believe that is is $17.00 per cake.

JL,
The problem with scent is everyone's nose differs! Over at the DE forums, it is often discussed that Ray's soaps are a bit more difficult to lather with. My two Lavender's of choice are the Taylor's and the lavender from QED. It is a very strong, intense lavender, and at first, wasn't sure about it.

Thanked: 0Reguarding the lather, do you have hard water? This can make a big difference.
Reguarding the scent, I love the smell of the classicshaving brand soaps that I have tried, but on the lavender, I was a bit dissapointed. I just purchased the lavender and have not used it yet, but out of the wrapper it smell like a cross between Ivory soap and lavender. I think you just confirmed my experience. I think that SUE makes a lavender, why not try that?

if you mean Sue at Saint Charles she doesn't make a
lavender, I've already checked. I did buy the savory
rose which I first tried this morning. Scent was great as was
the lather. I also ordered new spice, will try that in the morning.

No I haven't. I have heard that it is the best lavender
soap out there. But we can both take that for what
it's worth. i will probably order a cake when my Taylor
lavender cream runs out.

I looked at the website, and I see soaps made by many companies, but I dont see any soaps actually made by QED. Did I miss something?
