    Default Need help with soap....

Well I purchased the Dovo Prima Klang set from SRD and I received it yesterday. With the kit I received a shaving mug and a tub of SRD soap. I was wanting to know if I somehow put the soap in the bottom of the mug? Do I run my brush over the soap in the black tub and then use the mug for hot water? I am lost. I pictured a small disc of soap that would drop into the bottom of the mug.....Thanks in advance

Nice setup. This should have all the information you need: Making basic soap lather - Straight Razor Place Wiki. I leave mine in the tub, build the protolather (I like this word, I think Alraz came up with it) there, then lather on the wet face. This soap is really quite good if you get the lather right (which, in my experience, requires quite a bit of swirling).

    Good luck,

You can take the soap out of the pot, grate it up and press it into the bottom of the mug with a little warm water to rebind it if you want the soap in the mug. I do think thats a very complicated way to make lather though..!

I'd leave the soap in the pot, and make your lather this way:

    1) Put a teaspoon or two of warm water on the soap to soften it
    2) Half fill the mug with warm water and stand your brush in it to soak
    3) When its time to make the lather, take the brush out of the mug and empty all the water out of it.
    4) Tip the water in the soap pot into the mug.
    5) Load your brush by swirling it on the soap - This wont create lather but you will see soap on the brush
    6) Start making lather in the mug using the soapy water.
    7) Add extra water as necessary.

Thats how I do it, and it works very well for me!

Of course, there are plenty of ways to make lather and all are effective. The way I mention above is an easy and effective way of doing it and serves me very well without having to grate up soaps, get other containers or fit soaps into other things!

Good luck and keep us posted!

It's common to melt glycerin soaps in the microwave, though I haven't tried it with my SRD soap. I wouldn't feel comfortable nukiing the plastic container, but you could probably heat the outside of the jar with hot water and it should drop out. Put it into a glass measuriing cup, melt it, pour some into your mug and pour the rest back into the original container. Or you can do as I do and just use it right in the jar.

Follow the advice offered in the previous posts and you should be well on your way to creating a good lather from your soap.
