how do you use dr. bronners magic soap?
so i've used dr. bronners for years and regularly use the almond scent for a body wash and shampoo.. in the past i have used it for shaving when not using a brush any and it works well..
recently i have been using a small amount mixed into my tobs almond cream.. and i'm not sure if it really does anything extra.. but i like the idea...
i tried using purely the liquid soap with a brush and just made a bunch of dry foam...
i'm wondering how everyone else uses it with shaving? do some use it as a preshave.. or what methods they use to shave with it using a brush? either way.. i just want everyone's opinions and uses for this soap? anyone ever dilute it heavily and use it as an aftershave or deodorant?

It is my daily face wash soap (sensitive version). I use it just before I shave, just to clean up. I have never tried shaving with it though.

ok.. i knew someone would chime in eventually..
anyway.. it used to work great when i would just rub it in by hand... but the brush method simply didn't work.. wondering how the bar version would work with a brush?

I like peppermint and tea tree
The bottle says it can be used for shaving. iirc I got best results with a bit more frequent application (w/hands rather than brush) than the single application needed when using a dedicated proper shave soap.
iirc?, funny huh! I tried several things this way and that and eventually decided as much as i like Dr. B it simply isn't on par with non liquid.
Most often I use MWF but also use regular castille bar soap on many occasions. I have never tried DBMS in bar form but have seen it on the shelves.
These soaps do not build up and hold up as lather like a regular shave soap. maybe it's the veggie butters or gylecerin- i just dont know. I use hand application and brush depending on personal temperament of the day
I am now using a very simple olive oil, lye, and salt soap. I cannot say it is ideal, but it works well enough for shave and bath that when the mwf is gone I may not order more or try another shave soap or creme until I am out of this stuff.
I am working toward grater simplicity, what's your motivation?

i too am working toward simplification and minimalism.. i also strictly use all natural products on my body.. currently i'm trying to find the right products for shaving.. as of right now i'm using tobs.. but would like to explore all options.

Thanked: 190I have many years using Dr. Bronner Soap and I still use Castille soap which is closely related to Dr. Bronner's Soap. Using the Mach 3, the Castille Soap worked OK as a shaving soap, but not with a straight razor.
I actually use it as preshave oil/soap and found that if I used Col. Conk shaving soap on top of it, it actually makes a good lather. It was good for the Col. Conk soap as that soap tends to need some more "cushening"
Again, as a preshave oil/soap, it works well for me. When I tried to use it for straight shaving the shave was a bit dry. So give the soaps designed for straight shaving a try as they are tried and proven.
