Well, after a couple of months I noticed that my puck of MWF was showing some wear around the edges, so I just ordered three more pucks. A man ought to leave some type of inheritance that the taxman won't bother.

A puck of MWF will usually last me six months or so and that's with once a day or once every other day shaving...

Same stuff as bars?
Looking at prices and descriptions, it seems that the bar MWF is far less expensive, and all the descriptions say that it's the same formula since the 1900's. So, is there any problem (other than aesthetics) buying the bars and cutting a chunk for the shave bowl?

Not a problem if it is the same blend. The bath bar
soap is unlikely to be "exactly" the same, yet you may like it.
You might like it more...
If you have a favorite shave bowl there is nothing
wrong with grating the corners of any soap into it
half filling the bowel with shavings -- spritz with a
little water and press the damp shavings into your bowl.
After a while the puck or bar will be reduced in size to the
point that it too fits. Wood shops and now kitchen stores have
micro plane devices that make shaving a puck or bar of hard
soap down to size easy. A whittler with pocket knife can shave it
too.
BTW: Another bar soap to try shaving/ grating is Kirk's Original Coco Castile Soap.
Any bar soap can be tossed in the sink and given a try.
I should note that an empty 8 ounce cottage cheese container
holds a puck of MWF shave soap perfectly. The puck is thicker
and wider than most shave soaps.Last edited by niftyshaving; 07-22-2010 at 06:31 PM.

Thanks for the advice. I ended up finding the shave soap version for a reasonable price (via a link to an Ebay seller posted on this thread), so I did just go with that. Looking forward to trying it! -Mike

MWF Bar Soap
I see I'm not the first to have the idea.... Anyway, the FedEx man dropped off my goodie box from West Coast Shaving today . They had been back ordered on the MWF Shaving puck (both bowl and refill) but the description said that the formula was the same, so I ordered the bar of MWF. They now have the puck back in stock, so should I grate the bar and press it into my soap bowl, or just order the puck?
Has anyone actually used the bar to shave with and is it indeed the exact same formula???
