Default The Gentlemen's Quarter shaving soap samples

I have been using a brush and shaving soap for over 10 years but just started to use a straight this year. My favorite soap was Col Ichabod Conk. Have tried everything except for the Almond and loved them and the scents. Finding this site has expanded my knowledge of shaving soaps so i thought i would try something different, that and my local supplier of the Col. no longer deals in shaving supplies.

I was really looking for a place that not only had different fragrances of shaving soap but also had the aftershaves to match. I was looking for the same maker so that the fragrance from the soap and aftershave would be the same. I couldn't really find that so i then looked for a maker that had numerous different fragrances.

The Gentleman's Quarter had what i was looking for plus a nice wood bowl to keep my puck in. I ordered one of their dark wood bowls, a sample of the Armani Black Code, Cavendish Black, Lime Margarita and the Gentleman's Whiskey. I also ordered the only cologne that matched, the Cavendish Black.

I had read that these soaps don't lather much in the bowl and face lathering is the way to go. This is what i did and was pleased with the outcome. I have started with the Armani Black Code because this was my wife and daughter's favorite of the above mentioned scents.

This soap was pleasing to smell and provided just enough cushion for the razor to glide across my face and not cut into my face. The soap didn't dry fast, making me relather one side of my face in the middle of a shave. the sample sizes were of abundant size for me to get well more that a sample.

Over all i am very pleased with the Armani Black Code. I think that i will try to add some glycerin to the soap to see if it will help my razor slide. I am also going to go to their website and suggest that the develop some aftershaves with the same scents of the shaving soaps.

For soaps, I use Colleen's exclusively. The scents are great, and the performance is beyond anything else I have used.

I have limited experience with soaps, having concentrated most of my shaving resources in razors, but I can say without hesitation, that GQ is the best soap I've used. I'm really not sure why you'd feel the need to add glycerin. For me, the formula is just right.

Unless I am mistaken, glycerin is a lubricant and I would like to see if i can make the soap a little more lubricated so my razor slides better across my face.

Over all, I am very pleased with the soap, just want to see if i can tweak it a little to suit my face more. That is why i feel the need.

I have limited experience, but I've found both the following soaps to be very nice

Kissmyface (thankfully available at my local coop)
Mitchell's Wool Fat Shaving Soap, which is very popular here.

There is also a sudden interested in soaptopia, if you see the thread here.
