Thanked: 84Caswell Massey 1752?
Does anyone know much about these products.
Looking around online I have found mixed reviews, so I thought here would be the best place to ask.
So what do you all thing about it?

i just got one in todat acuatually. the 1752 almond. I had already shaved before it came but my god I loved the fragrance. If it shaves half as good as it smells your in for a treat. they also package well and ship quickly. I have to reccomend them just based on that. one more thing to consider the prices are a little lower than some of the big name british manufacturers (they are american). so go ahead and try them out.

I used to use a lot of Caswell Massey products. Personally, I always preferred their colognes and aftershaves over their shaving creams. I had problems getting their creams to lather well. Admittedly, I didn't have the same level of experience crafting lather then, so your experience may be different. Their shaving soaps may be a different matter altogether. Perhaps you may want to give them a try. I believe they have 1752 almond shaving soap.

Caswell-Massey . . .
Gentlemen:
Caswell-Massey soaps and creams failed to work for me. I am sure they are good products, and some gentlemen will like them, but for me, the lather was anemic and the cushion weak.

I've not tried them myself, mainly because I'd heard pretty mixed reviews about them.
The way I see it is there are so many great soaps out there, why spend the money on ones that, by and large, people arent so keen on? JMHO and, as always, YMMV.

My limited experience
I've only had two shaves with it (4 straight razor shaves in total), and at first I could not get sufficient lather by trying to apply directly to my face with a boar brush. Today, I used the same brush (I'm impatiently awaiting the arrival of my badger brush) but used bottled water and a bowl. I was able to use the brush more aggressively and did produce decent lather that didn't dry out super quickly. I still wasn't able to lather my entire face to do a pass without it drying, but it was produced a lot more lubrication this time around. I still don't love the soap, but don't want to waste it, so I'm going to give it a shot when the badger brush arrives. -Mike

I've also had bad experiences with CM creams/soaps. $$ can be better spent elsewhere.

I have the almond and although it is not the best performer, I like the scent, glide and to a certain extent, the conditioning but not so much the cushion and lasting power. It is a slow latherer in my hands so perhaps that has something to do with the bad reviews it receives. I would say that it is efficiently serviceable for the $11 I paid for mine. I do agree with the other posters that there are better soaps out there.
