Default And Update... just finished another shave....

    As an update...

Thanks for all the advice. I believe my prep is fine... I shave directly after a nice hot shower. (I take HOT showers... usually end up nice and pink from the heat.)
I made a lather that FINALLY lasted the entire shave with Proraso... it only took about twice the water necessary as to build the same lather from a cake soap. Not at all what I had expected from a cream product... I would have assumed cream products would require a bit less water for the same lather.

I did get a good clean shave, an entire pass was just about done before I had to relather the soulpatch area as it had started to dry there... so greatly improved.

I can see why Proraso is liked, but I'm not 100% that it's right for me... I'll give it a few more shaves before I decide.

Experiment... I find that creams (and my face) like water -- lots of water
but do add it dribble by dribble in a lathering mug, cup, empty margarine
    tub.

I splash clear water on my face and start building a lather in
a mug. About 30 seconds to a min later I splash more clear
water on my face and continue building a lather. In about
two min (three/ four splashes of clear water) I have a lather that
I like -- hard soap, cream, or uberesque if I take the time to
both keep my whiskers damp with clear water and also build
a lather my shave improves. Adding water dribble by dribble
both to hard soap or cream much improves the lather.

Your water, brush and face will be different.... so experiment.

One more thing to bear in mind is your water quality. Where I live it is a hard water area (high mineral content). It wrecks electric kettles, electric showers etc, and it makes whipping up a good lather almost impossible. I have to use boiled water, since this softens the water, and makes for a completely different lather; a really great one. Good luck.

    Victor,

I just got my first bottle of Alocado Glacial last week. Yes, it will definitely give you a cooling menthol blast.

Chris (aka alabamalawyer) tells me that Osage Rub is also highly recommended if you want a cooling menthol blast after a shave.

also.. i had no idea osage rub was a cooling aftershave.. i had just assumed by the name it was a calming product..
