Default No more Uberlather for me.

Since I started wet shaving, I loved combining various soaps and creams and adding glycerin. My philosophy was that I was getting the best of both worlds (soaps and creams) and I was creating the best possible lather available.

I have since changed my mind on this and I realize that I like enjoying each individual soap or cream for what they are. I love the scent and cushion of Al's creams. I love the scent, glide and overall experience provided by Tabac. I love the moisture, glide and ease of lather (for me) provided by MWF.

So, I may not be getting the best possible lather with using these individual products on their own, but I am enjoying each product more for what it is. Do others feel the same way?

Amen brother...I just received a custom SC from Al. It is the denser formulation than the new SC and I used it alone and it's very much like the überlather I am used to

I tend to agree , Ive stopped adding glycerin to MWF and find it lathers an lasts much better without the glycerin .

I hardly ever make uberlather. Partly because of time in the mornings and partly because I like to enjoy each soap and cream on its own.

I used to make it on the weekends from Trumpers sandalwood soap, cream and skinfood and that worked really well. Maybe I'm just lazy and thats why I stopped doing it..! I just really like the lather I can get from the products on their own as I say, so I dont really make uberlather much.

How funny. I was getting ready to start a new thread stating that I finally have the uberlather making technique down and have been using it quite a bit. I love the shave I get with it. I use a scented cream and an unscented soap so all I am doing is enhancing the cream.

I don't use it every day - but I use it most days.

Once again this showcases the personal preferences involved in this art.

I know what you mean. I LOVE my überlather...every day!! And it takes maybe a few extra seconds to combine the 3 ingredients to make it...no sweat for me and I am sure you would agree.

But, I must say, Al's SC (at least the formulation I got) is a stand alone SC that is very, very überlather-ish. It was my first time using it, so I will need to tweak it a bit to get the perfect consistency, but I am sure it'll perform

I understand the hesitation in mixing different scents from SC and soaps together...especially when one has a favorite scent in creme or soap.

I'm still kinda new to this whole straight shaving bit. I have never made Überlather before and I probably never will. My main thing is I like to keep things simple. Straight razor shaving in and of itself is simple. Only 1 blade to worry about as opposed to 5 blades, layer of aloe, and some weird rubber thing(I'm speaking of the new Gillette Fusion). So to keep things simple I only use 1 razor, 1 strop that is unpasted. and 1 type of soap that I use to make my lather.

I'm hoping that as my technique improves that I can continue and maybe even improve my simplicity in shaving.

I don't bother with it to be honest. I'd rather use a great cream from the outset & not be mucking about with it.
I also imagine it creates complications for the inexperienced.
That said, for those who enjoy the process, for whatever reason, I'm sure it makes perfect sense.

    Ladies and gentlemen:

I fully share Fbones' thoughts on this. "I like enjoying each individual soap or cream for what they are," he points out. I could not agree more.

I tried uberlather for a time, but some months ago I reasoned, as has our good friend Fbones, that I prefer to enjoy each soap or cream for what it is. Of course, water around these parts is relatively well balanced between hard and soft, so that is not problem with me.

I rotate a dozen soaps and half as much in cream varieties. I bought each for its individual qualities. All are high end soaps and creams, and they stand on their own. I don't see the need to spike them.

A Renoir stands on its own quite well. Blending Renoir, therefore, with some commercial poster will detract from the Renoir.

I, therefore, bid farewell to uberlather, unless I end up with low quality soap or cream that needs to be saved. None of my topnotch soaps and creams needs saving.

    Regards,
    Obie

I am the same way. Sometimes on the weekend i will take the extra time and use the scuttle too.

But I prefer to face lather anyway and MWF by itself leaves my skin feeling good enough to skip the aftershave if I didnt like using it.
