feels like soap scum
Every time I use just plain cream (art of shaving, co bigelow, etc) or plain soap (van der hagen, mitchel's wool fat) my skin feels sticky, kind of like washing with a cheap bar of soap in the shower with hard water. If I combine soap and cream with some glycerin I get a better experience. But none of them leave my face feeling as soft or smooth as if I were to just use shampoo or even basic hand soap. Is there anything that I can do to make it feel better?

Thanked: 1936My face feels sticky (if we are talking about the same feeling) when using some alcohol based aftershaves like Dolche & Gabanna One. When I use Clubman Pinaud aftershave, my face feels simply silky smooth, but it has some alcohol in it as well. Try different aftershaves...the shave soap/cream is to help you shave, the aftershave is well...for after the shave. It sounds like you are getting a good shave, so the soap is doing it's job.

is it due to the soap or cream being too drying on your skin? perhaps a preshave oil might help.. i've tried a few drops of baby oil before i lather and it really moisturizes..

Thanked: 983Might need to spend a little longer in rinsing it all off better. I've had similar experiences.

Maybe your not totally washing it off after shaving? Any soap should rinse right off unless you're making it too dry and it's adhering to your face.

try this
Look in your area for Burt's Bees baby soap. I used it for years to shave with, very mild and free-rinsing.

Thanked: 48i second the thebigspender, sounds like your lather is too dry. do you get a line of soap that sticks to the edge of your razor? it should all vanish the second water hits it. try adding a bit more water.
