I too have a pretty substantial supply of shaving soaps and creams in my shave den. As has been noted already, though, I tend to gravitate towards a handful of favorites--Mitchell's Wool Fat, Mama Bear's, Ingram, and Erasmic.

Thanked: 14See, this hobby is as bad as cigars! I'm just getting into all this and I find myself wanting to try EVERYTHING. I've got a couple samples coming in already, I've scoured the town to see what we have local and I finally gave in his morning and ordered the Tabac jar. I hear so many good things about it. Of course I also want to try the Mama Bears, and the Mitchells Wool fat, and the Taylor Bond stuff and.............where does it end?
Right now, my wife is very supportive, but I can see this getting ugly if after 26 years together I all of a sudden take up more space in the bathroom than she does!

Thanked: 1371That is an AD that I somehow avoided...
I have Williams, VDH, Tabac, and D.R. Harris soaps. I usually alternate the Tabac and the Harris, occasionally throwing the Williams into the mix. I almost never use the VDH.
I am determined to get good lather from the Williams, and have managed to make it happen a few times, but not regularly. Why did they have to make it smell so good? If there were a soap that smelled like Williams and performed like D.R. Harris, I would never need to buy another soap again.

I find that when i find a company that produces a great lather and has a long lasting scent, then i stick with that company and purchase the different scents that they have.. I currently have Mama Bear's Drakkar and Black Code. Love the smell of both of those and am wanting to purchase the Cavendish soap as well. Mama Bear makes a long lather lasting great soap.

Up until yesterday I was using 2 soaps in my rotation, the Speick shave soap stick and the G.F.Trumper's Limes shave soap. Had 1 puck of Thiers soap and Kent's as back-up but not in use.
That will change in a few days, don't know what has gotten into me (actually I do but am currently in denial..)
On their way are now another 5 soaps from Calani, the 'Simply Soap', 'Purissima', 'Cadre Noir', 'Dubai' & 'Lavender' as well as 2 Valobras, the 'Almond' and the 'Menthol' scented ones....
Should be having enough soap for a couple of years now, although still far far less than many in our straight shavers community here...

I used only Col Conk amber for the last 4-5 years. Like it a lot. Excellent soap if you know how to conserve it. Recently I got 4 brands of triple milled soaps (TOBS lavender in the bowl and a sandalwood refill, Harris almond in bowl and a lavender refill, Vintage Blades house brand not sure what the scent it is, but it smells o.k. to me, and a Penhaligon English Fern refill which smells really good in the package). I've been rotating among them (except for the Penhaligon, waiting for a new wood bowl for it) and find them all quite fine, but, believe it or not, the cheapo Vintage seems to work best, but want another few weeks of rotating them til I form a final opinion. Just ordered 4 different Mama Bear soaps to try; they should arrive this week. I think I have several years worth of soap. Like all that I've tried and will be posting opinions on them in a few weeks. I guess that makes 20 or so pucks; I order a dozen Conk's at a time.

Thanked: 1072This is the problem with being quite involved in the Shave Of The Day thread. I'm constantly being shown new soaps/creams and told how good they are.
I currently have around 11, but then there's aftershaves, astringents.....
