    Default Williams Shaving Soap Users

    Hi All!

While I'm new to Straight Razors, I've wet shaved most all of my 57 year old life. I've been using Williams Shaving Soap Bars for over 25 years. Not the fanciest but it works well for me. In my area all of the larger chains have discontinued it (including Wal-Mart). I went to an Independent locally owned store and found that they carried it. Retail is $1.25 per bar. I contacted the store manager about buying in quantity. They come in a three pack. I ordered 10 3 packs. My cost was 85 cents per bar. The store is supplied by the Independent Grocers Association (IGA). I'm not sure if the distributor is in all areas of the US. just thought that I'd share the info!

You bought 30 pucks of soap?

How long does each one last you? I know I'm weird with my soap use, with each one lasting me at least 5 years, but at age 57 I would assume you are set for life for soap.

With the way things are going,i figured that I eventually wouldn't be able to get it locally. The best price online that I could find was $1.99 PLUS SHIPPING! Yes I'm probably set for life, but then again, my 17 year old son has taken up the wet shaving torch and if nothing else, he'll be able to use it also. It's not going to rot! I have a large chunk of homemade lye laundry soap that my grandmother made well over 45 years ago and if I take a small amount and finely grate it, it will still clean the dirtiest clothes!

My post was to let those who use Williams where to find it, and find it affordable. I hope that I have succeeded.

Absolutely! It was not a criticism, and I hope it wasn't taken that way. Good on you to get your son started the right way!

Your reply wasn't taken as criticism! Far from it! Thanks for all of the useful info that you post!

I bought my son the 8/8 Henkles sharpened by Lynn that Don had for sale a month or so again. It's for Christmas! I started out with what my dad called "A double bladed Hog Scraper" I also bought a 5/8 German razor from Eric for my rotation but also for my son to use. It's got a rounded point and my Gengo/Grant has a square point. Just thought that it might be a little easier for him to get used to using.

Oh, what the heck, buy some green bananas while you're at it. I also don't know how Utopian can make soap last that long. Actually, I have some which has lasted longer, but it's still in the factory wrapping.

Okay, I've been reading about the ongoing Williams Wars ever since I started this whole wet-shaving thing about a year ago. Some of these conversations get really interesting over on B and B, where for now I just lurk.

So wanting to see what the fuss was all about, and in order to find out if I'm going to become a partisan of the rabid, foaming at the mouth hate-it side, or the adoring, clothes-tearing love-it side, I just picked up a puck for $1.03 at the local grocery, along with an oil-can of Foster's, and a newspaper, so I'm ready for just about anything.

At that price, I figure if I hate it-and it's going to have some stiff competition with some creams I love (CF Lime, Godrej, Arko, Proraso)-then I can always use it as a shower soap. More later.
