After viewing, I realized that I was rushing the lather building process. Also, if you have better luck with the second lather building, why not simulate that by building a lather and then letting it sit for a bit before building again?

Personally I don't use the second pass normally, only for areas I'm doing a back-shave over, but I usually find there is enough lather, and my face is already prepared enough to just sprinkle some hot water on and it will make it ready to back hoe.
