I ordered their Tobacco shave soap and aftershave from their Etsy store about 10 days ago and the order still has not shipped. I believe this was prior to West Coast carrying their products.

I contacted the vendor and he/she? told me that orders typically ship within 10 business days. Well, it has been 10 and I have no update.

I'm venting, so don't mind me. I cannot comment on the preformance but I have read that they are pretty decent products. I would definitely order from West Coast Shaving.

I love West Coast Shaving. Whenever I order from them, I usually have the stuff in my mailbox prior to them sending out the shipping confirmation e-mail.

yeah.. same with me.. stuff usually shows up the next day.. and it's not very often that something is found for a better price elsewhere. wcs is the best..

anyway.. back to the portland general store products.. i like the idea of a whiskey scent...and it looks like they have coconut oil as an ingredient.. i look forward to hearing how it performs.. i'm sure you'll get your stuff soon.. chin up brother.

When (or if) it arrives, I will use it immediately and let you know about the performance.

I received my tobacco soap and splash in the mail today from Portland General Store long after I placed my order.

My first impression was very, very cool packaging. Attractive plastic tub and glass jar with very cool looking labels. That was where the positive ends!

I open the tub of soap and take a whiff. Hmmmmmm. Seems like I got an unscented glycerin based soap. Interesting. The only reason I ordered this product is because I assumed it would have an inviting, warm tobacco flavor based on the description. I could not detect tobacco, let alone any scent at all. The same goes for the splash. It smelled like water.

On to the lather. This glycerin soap is ROCK HARD. This thing was resisting my semogue boar it was so hard. It was very hard to load my brush. I actually felt like I was rubbing my brush on concrete. Very strange. When I finally had what I thought was enough lather loaded, I started building my lather. This went okay and I did get lather, but I let it sit for about ten minutes and it basically just dried in my scuttle.

In most situations, I would give the soap the benefit of the doubt and try again. I see no reason to even try this soap again. It is unscented so that is a huge strike. If I want an unscented soap, I will use Institut Karite or MWF. It is also very difficult to lather. Mamabear's glycerin soaps lather with ease.

Anyway, I'm done with my rant. I posted a review on the aftershave splash which is also unscented. It seems like the splash might have some healing properties and a unique ingredient list, but I have alum, witch hazel and balms to take care of that. I really thought it would have a nice tobacco fragrance. I MAY continue to use the splash in place of my witch hazel for a while and see what results I get.

    Oh well..........

I did a review on the Whisky soap over a year ago, which can be found under reviews under P for Portland General.

ROCK hard is true, however I found if you leave hot water on the soap for a few minutes and then lather inside the tub while loading it generates a decent lather albeit alot of swirling effort is needed!

The scent is 'unique' to say the least. I may give it another whirl sometime but it aint Tabac or MWF.

Well I certainly have no problem giving a thumbs up to Al's Creams. The "Goodfellas" cream is one of the best scents I've ever smelled in a cream/soap.

also.. al's a single pass facelatherer as well.. so i know it'll work for what i need it for.

I have used this soap and had rather poor luck with it. To start, the scent is pretty weak and the lather is almost non existent. I thought i was going to give myself carpal tunnel trying to whip up any sort of a lather. Once I had somewhat of a lather built up, i applied the soap to my face for the first pass. I started going with the grain (using Merkur safety blade) and the lubrication wasn't too bad. I did notice that my face had a burning sensation once I completed the first pass. Despite my better judgement I decided to go ahead and apply a second round of lather to my face... when I went to my shave cup and brush for that lather, most of it had dissipated and disappeared. I had to re-work up more lather adding more soap and water to my shave mug. I applied it to my face, shaved it off, and the burning sensation had increased substantially. Long story short, this product is not for me and I would not recommend it to a friend... I actually had to finish my shave with some Colonal Conk I had left over from earlier.
