    Default Portugeuse creams

I'm trying to decide which Portugeuse cream to try as I have been recommended a vendor in Portugal. I'm ordering Institut Karite and 444 balm from him and would like to try some cream as I've read they're very good as most of them have lanolin in them. He stocks Lavanda, Musgo Real, O Melhor, Top Secret and Valeiro.

I like the sound of the Lavanda but which would you recommend?

    Default Creams . . .

    Hello, simmo3801:

I suggest Lavanda. I have the cream and it's good stuff.

By the way, welcome to Straight Razor Place.

    Regards,

    Obie

    Thanks Obie!

I'm pretty sure lavanda is the one to try but they all sound goo in the reviews!

Thank you I had heard that Musgo was good and I can already get it from a UK vendor so will try it another time.

Any problems with the lanolin affecting brushes?

i have not heard of the lanolin ever causing problems.. i have in the past mixed musgo real and mitchell's wool fat for an extreme lanolin kick.. it did not effect my brush in any way.

I don't mean to spoil anyone's fun or anything but my experience with the Lavanda cream is not a very good one - I never got decent lather from it despite my best lathering efforts. Maybe it is my water is too hard. Give it a try, though.
I never tried the Musgo Real, though - it is very expensive in Portugal: more expensive than in the US, as it seems. It is what we may call an "export product", not for internal consumption... I may have to try it one of these days.
But while you're at it, try the after-shave as well. I've heard good things things about it.
And consider a Semogue brush... they are one of Portugal's best hidden secrets.

Oh... by the way... I'm Portuguese!

I use MWF all the time and have never had an issue with my brushes. About once or twice a year I like to soak my brushes in a mixture of water and Vinegar to get rid of all the soap scum (we have hard water). Other than that though, I just rinse my brush after each use.

Can't go wrong with Musgo. It's not the best cream out there, but still a fine product.
