Question Best Sandalwood soap that goes with Cyril Salter Indian Sandalwood

    Alright gentlemen,
I just received my Cyril Salter Indian Sandalwood" Creme and I really LOVE the scent (and the performance, judging from the Vetiver version I have). The smell is intense and "pure". Now, I am looking to couple this with a Sandalwood soap that has a matching (or close to matching) scent, without compromising on performance.

I've done a few searches in the review section of SRP and around the forum...but alas, no thread that coupled the two products. The caveat is that the soap has to be a very good performer too.

Any recommendations? let me know what you gentlemen consider a worthy Sandalwood soap that has both a great scent (as good as the Cyril) and the performance of a great soap.

As Max has said in past posts the QED sandalwood is the truest of sandalwoods although I havent tried it Im betting hes right. I also love SRD sandalwood soap, its a smoky sandalwood, good stuff

    Thumbs up

    Thanks Matt,
Thanks for the recommendations . I have not forgotten Max' words on the QED Sandalwood. In fact, the premise of my question is somewhat formulated with that soap in mind.

I emailed Charles at QED before posting the thread and he didn't mention the QED Sandalwood, which was a surprise. However, he did mention the Bath House Spanish Fig & Nutmeg soap and said that in the background, it has more than hint of sandalwood.

Anyway, I would still like to hear other members' recommendations of sandalwood scents that are close to the Cyril Sandalwood.

The Salter sandalwood is different from other sandalwoods to my nose. For some reason, it reminds me of Oatmeal Raisin Cookies.

My favorite sandalwood shave soap is probably the old tallow version of Trumper Sandalwood. It shows up from time to time on the B/S/T of various shave forums.

    Phil,
That is the most interesting description of a Sandalwood scent, if I ever heard one .

I actually do like Trumpers soaps. They are excellent performers

I have one and have been through another tub of QED Sandalwood, among many others made by Charles. Great stuff. When I use a cream I use it with a non scented soap ..... if I'm using them together. I assume that is what you're looking for ? I found that if I tried to match a soap/cream combo one would tend to overpower the other. For me MWF has no scent so I use that often with soap/cream lathers. DR Harris Arlington is another which if it has any scent at all, my pipe smoker's nose can't detect it.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

You know Jimmy...MWF (or even Cella) is exactly what went through my head before I posted this thread and, like you correctly surmized, using it in an uber mode is what I had in mind. Like you, I use it in combination with other scented cremes to get wonderful ubers. I just wanted to see if there is a soap out there that closely matches the scent and performance. Arlington has a wonderful but overpowering scent to me so I wouldn't want to mix it with any other scents except unscented shave creme. I wished they made an unscented version of their soaps.

I'm sorry to hear that. I can't detect any scent at all from it. MWF either though I've read that it has a scent. The same with natural hones. I read guys say their hone smells 'earthy' or what have you and I have never been able to detect a scent on any of my hones. Maybe if I ever give up the pipe.

I guess some of your olfactory receptors have been sensitized or saturated . Is this true of any scents of there are scents you can easily discern?

You are right though, MWF has an ever so slight soap-ish scent (as does Cella), but nothing that interferes with other cremes' smell (at least so far in my hands). It is a beautiful and neutral scented soap that goes with anything.

As for hones, that is also true...The Escher I got from you a while back has a fantastic earthy smell to it (of course, this is after I let it air out for a few days to rid it of the smokey scent that you gave it. Go figure: a Smoked Escher). So do my JNats, each harboring an ever so slight but distinct variation in "earthy" smell. After all, they are harvested/mined from Mother earth. I love the smell of honing when I use these stones. It helps put one in a Zen mode while honing .
